Job Details
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The primary function of the Buyer is to oversee the procurement and purchasing of items needed to support day –to –day manufacturing operations for the corporation.

REQUIRED SKILLS
- Organizational skills
- Professional and effective communication, both written and orally
- Must be a team player and contribute to continuous improvement with in the purchasing department
- Ability to assemble and quickly analyze data to make purchasing decisions
- Able to use Windows-based software
- Emphasis on Excel proficiency
- Attention to detail
- Mechanically inclined
- Understanding of:
- Tolerances
- Costing methods and their applications
- Manufacturing capabilities and/or capacities
PRIMARY TASK
- Establish and maintain good working relationship with internal and external customers as well as suppliers
- Effective establishment and negotiation of purchasing contracts and/or buying programs to attain the best overall value for every purchase
- Seek out new sources of items as needed
- Technical understanding of assigned commodities
- Remain current on economic, industrial, and other trends that affect market and prices
- Establish and maintain planning factors within a MRP system
- Control purchase order placement, confirmation, and tracking
- Create and run reports to evaluate status of material requirements in relationship to a production schedule
QUALIFICATIONS
- Applicable supply chain management experience preferred
- Business or technical related degree preferred
- APICS certification applicable
