Reporting to the Vice President for Student Development and Campus Life, the Director will work with imagination and energy to devise pathways for every Concordia student to explore, experience, and engage with career development opportunities, enabling students to integrate and apply their liberal arts skills to successful lifelong achievement of their professional goals beyond college.

The work of the Career Center is guided by a visionary and innovative Career Initiative in fulfillment of the College’s mission and strategic plan. The framework of the Initiative, grounded in the Lutheran concept of vocation and built on the principles of exploration, reflection, clarification, and transition, establishes pathways to career readiness for all students.
A dynamic leader for this role will:
• Bring insight, enthusiasm, and an entrepreneurial spirit, and show capacity to effectively lead a team;
• Create strong connections with both faculty and staff on campus, as well as with external audiences;
• Expand and diversify the portfolio of opportunities for internships and other off-campus work experiences;
• Engage graduates and friends of the college actively in this work, and broaden opportunities for students to interact with alumni;
• Raise funds to support this new enterprise.

The ability to engage internal and external constituents in support of career development preparation for all students is of the highest priority. Successful candidates will have an understanding of student development and an in-depth knowledge of occupational and employment trends, as well as strong organizational, public relations, and leadership skills. The Director must be willing to embrace a comprehensive understanding and commitment to creative and innovative career planning in the context of an excellent twenty-first century liberal arts education. Creative leadership is essential as the Career Center adapts its programs, approaches, and priorities to the needs and preferences of students as they meet a dynamically changing workforce and engage in thoughtful career and life planning.

Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must possess (1) bachelor’s degree; (2) at least eight years of professional experience in a relevant field; (3) a successful record of implementing innovations in fulfillment of strategic goals; and (4) an established record of creating critical partnerships, supervising staff, and effectively managing budgets.
