JOB SUMMARY

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, collecting, preparing and processing specimens biological specimens. Assists in performing laboratory activities and other assigned tasks. Aids in preparing laboratory specimens and supplies. May be responsible for entering laboratory orders and results. Ensures the accuracy and quality of laboratory data in a safe and professional work environment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Adheres to relevant policies and ethics for clinical laboratory testing. Demonstrates an understanding of the underlying concepts and values of a service organization. Displays strong personal commitment to organizational success, inspiring others to commit to shared goals. Follows pre-established patient safety guidelines. Maintains cleanliness or sterilization of self and objects in order to prevent infections. Participates in collecting and processing specimens (e.g. blood) according to test requests. Collect blood and non-blood samples on all age groups, pediatrics through geriatrics, as well as other assigned tasks. Process all types of laboratory specimens including centrifuging, aliquoting, and proper storage of samples. Stocking supplies and maintaining a safe and effective working environment. Assist lab technicians in collection, preparing and processing specimens. Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment and ensures a safe and professional environment. Participate in the training of new employees and students.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

This position is a full time position of 36 hours a week, 72 hours per pay period with 8 or 10 hour shifts between the hours of 4:30 am and 5:30 pm, along with rotating weekends and holidays working at the USD Medical Center all year round.

QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of a formal phlebotomy program, phlebotomy experience, and experience in a laboratory-related field preferred. May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. High school diploma or General Educational Development Diploma (GED) required.
