Position Description:
North Dakota State University is accepting applications and nominations for the position of Department Chair of Public Health. This is a 12-month, tenure-track, Associate or full Professor appointment.

We seek a dynamic leader who will continue the department's development in research and educational programs to realize the land grant mission of NDSU to meet the needs of the state. We also seek experience and excellence in education, including leadership in development of educational programs and specifically distance learning. Additionally, candidates should have relevant administrative experience in academic or other environments.

The Master of Public Health ( MPH ) program was established in 2012, became accredited in 2016 and was established as an academic department in 2016. The Department of Public Health consists of 10 faculty members with primary and shared department appointments and 12 adjunct faculty as well as multiple educational specializations in Community Health Science, Management of Infectious Diseases, and American Indian Public Health. Among the top priorities for the Department in the coming years are the conception of a Food Safety MPH specialization, dual degree options with related undergraduate (e.g. Emergency Management) and doctoral programs (e.g. DNP , PhD in Psychology), and a potential doctorate in public health degree. Current strengths of the department include the American Indian Public Health Resource Center, Center for Immunization Research and Education, ongoing grants for maternal & child health and preventing child abuse, and a rural population health focus.

The College of Health Professions is composed of four academic units involving six health profession disciplines: (1) the NDSU School of Pharmacy composed of two departments including pharmacy practice and pharmaceutical sciences which are the founding members of the College (established in 1902); (2) the School of Nursing which joined the College in 1969 as an associate degree program, 1986 as a baccalaureate degree program, 2001 with a master's program, 2005 with a doctor of nursing practice/ family nurse practitioner, and 2014 with NDSU Nursing at Sanford Health in Bismarck; (3) the Department of Allied Sciences (Medical Laboratory Science, Radiologic Sciences, and Respiratory Care) joined the College in 2006; and (4) the Department of Public Health joined the College in 2012.

The pharmacy program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education ( ACPE ). The nursing program is approved by the North Dakota Board of Nursing and accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education ( CCNE ). Allied Sciences is accredited through its various discipline specific agencies. The public health program is accreditation by the Council on Education in Public Health ( CEPH ). Academic degrees offered by the College include: Doctor of Pharmacy, and Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Doctor of Philosophy in Pharmaceutical Sciences; Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Doctor of Nursing Practice; Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Care, Medical Laboratory Science, and Radiologic Sciences; Master of Public Health; and several dual degrees including Pharm.D./ MBA , Pharm.D./Ph.D., and Pharm.D./ MPH .

The City of Fargo is located in Cass County, North Dakota, along the Red River of the North which forms the border between Minnesota and North Dakota. An estimated 122,359 (as of July 2017) people live in Fargo. The greater Fargo-Moorhead metropolitan area population is nearly 238,000.

The Department Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Health Professions.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
The Department Chair oversees the department's faculty and staff, collaborating with other department Chairs

Minimum Qualifications:
• Candidates for this position must possess an earned doctorate from an accredited institution
• a distinguished record of teaching graduate students, research, external funding and service commensurate with the rank of Associate Professor or Professor with tenure in the College of Health Professions
• strong leadership skills;
• established interpersonal, communication, and administrative skills
• demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
• active licensure on one's major field (if applicable)
• a strong interest in interdisciplinary education.
Effective oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
• a master or doctorate degree in public health
• five or more years of public health experience
• teaching or administrative experience in a CEPH accredited public health program
• service to the profession exemplified by leadership in national organizations
• experience with distance education
• experience in both healthcare and academic settings
• experience with rural health issues
• demonstrated success working with diverse populations
• a strong background in one of the disciplines involved in teaching the NDSU program.
