Position Description:
The Department of Sociology and Anthropology seeks a full-time tenure-track assistant professor of cultural anthropology to begin August 2019. We seek a cultural anthropologist who is ethnographically grounded, engaged in cultural theory, and can complement the teaching and scholarly work in both the Anthropology Program and department more generally. The successful candidate will be required to teach two courses per semester and advise both undergraduate and graduate students. In addition, the candidate must work effectively with colleagues and students in an interdisciplinary setting.

Minimum Qualifications:
The successful candidate must have: PhD in Anthropology in hand by the start of the appointment; an ability to teach Introduction to Cultural Anthropology, Qualitative Research Methods, and Development of Anthropological Theory; excellent oral and written communication skills; effective interpersonal skills; demonstrable record of effective teaching experience at the university level; evidence of scholarly research that complements existing scholarship in the Anthropology Program and department (for example, conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications); a willingness and ability to advise undergraduate and graduate students.

Preferred Qualifications:
Although the area of specialty is open, the department is looking for a colleague who can complement the scholarship of current faculty members. Preferred research specialties include, but are not limited to, Medical Anthropology, Postcolonial Studies, Indigenous Peoples Studies, Power and Identity, Environmental Anthropology, or Applied Anthropology.
