Job Details
The Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute ( UGPTI ) at NDSU is seeking candidates for a Tribal Liaison position. The primary objective for the position is to work collaboratively with department education and research professionals to engage the tribal community in prioritizing and promoting activities related to transportation safety, planning and asset management. The tribal liaison will have a highly visible role in coordinating tribal outreach for transportation programs and training across the UGPTI and other agencies. The position does require travel.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Communications, Education, Indian Affairs, Agribusiness/Agriculture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management or related field
• Computer skills
• Knowledge and respect for American Indian culture and values
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to lead meetings, write news articles, develop grant proposals and deliver professional presentations
• Ability to work in a collaborative manner to effectively collect and deliver knowledge based on tribal priorities
• Aptitude to think strategically and creatively in planning/prioritizing work, and
• Human relation skills to successfully establish and grow relationships with tribal transportation stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with tribal communities including professional work with American Indians or tribal governments or in a tribal community-based position
• Demonstrated knowledge of transportation issues and policies
