JOB SUMMARY

Perform complex histocompatibility testing, including serologic and molecular methods of tissue typing, antibody screening and identification, and donor cross matching. Interpret and evaluate histocompatibility data and apply this to donor-recipient matching for solid organ transplantation. Routine patient testing, including patient preparation, specimen handling, and processing. Be able to perform emergent patient testing independently in an on-call situation. Record, interpret and report test results. Review of quality control records, proficiency testing results, and preventative maintenance records. Performance of instrument maintenance and function checks. Assessment of test performance through testing previously analyzed specimens, internal blind testing samples or external proficiency testing samples. May be required for some additional shift flexibility including designated on-call responsibility.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Adheres to established internal standards and procedures abstracted from Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Adheres to relevant policies and ethics for clinical laboratory testing. Creates reports for management and/or research using internal and external transplant systems. Delivers written and oral communication, responds to questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact. Demonstrates experience engendering collaborative processes that lead to problem solving and the achievement of business goals. Helps promote collaboration across generations, functions, regions, and levels. Strives to complete assignments according to established quality measures. Works with quality assurance methods, tools and techniques.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

This position is a full time position of 80 hours a pay period, 40 hours a week between the hours of 8:00 am and 4:30 pm and requires being on-call every third week as part of a 3-person rotation. Call back during evening, night and/or weekend hours may occur. There is compensation for being on-call as well as for being called in.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification from the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics as a Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) is preferred. Will obtain and maintain any continuing education credits equivalent to the requirements of applicable state licensure law(s).If working in North Dakota (ND), must be licensed by the ND Board of Clinical Laboratory Practice. If working in Minnesota (MN), must have passed a national certification exam for Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). Bachelor's degree in science degree required. Three years experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
