Position Description:
The Department of Plant Pathology at North Dakota State University has a postdoctoral research associate position available to conduct research on the biology and ecology of foliar, soil-borne, and storage rot pathogens of potato. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research on methods to improve the management of soil-borne and storage diseases of potato and to assist in conducting research on the molecular characterization of potato pathogens. This position is also expected to provide microbiological and molecular biological laboratory support for screening potato genotypes for resistance to relevant potato pathogens. The appointment is for two years, with additional years depending on satisfactory performance and funding.

Minimum Qualifications:
The position requires a PhD in Plant Pathology, Microbiology or a closely related discipline. The position also requires experience working with microbes using classical and molecular techniques, experience working with fungal pathogens of field crops, and experience working with soil borne pathogens. Experience is also required with molecular biology methods and techniques such as DNA & RNA extraction, PCR , gel electrophoresis, real time PCR , gene sequencing. The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and an ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working with pathogens of potato; experience with laboratory, greenhouse and field research; experience working with prokaryotic plant pathogens.
