Job Details
The Delivery Equipment Technician must be knowledgeable of
all equipment and supplies provided by Rice Home Medical and uphold its standard for excellence. Responsible for competent and efficient delivery of medical equipment and supplies. Provide comprehensive equipment education and processing of paperwork to customers in their home. Responsible for safeguarding company assets while in their care.
• JOB RELATIONSHIPS:
A. REPORTS TO: Materials Manager
B. SUPERVISES: N/A
C. INTERRELATIONSHIPS WITH: Rice Home Medical Operations Director, Billing Team, Materials Manager, Branch Managers, Customer Service Reps, Sales and Marketing Staff, Delivery Technicians, Clinical Technicians, and Rice Memorial Hospital Staff.
• HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week; 7-530, Monday - Friday.
• DRESS CODE: Company logo wear shirt, navy blue or khaki slacks, name
badge required. Company logo jacket required during cool temperature months. Baseball hat allowed with company logo. Must be neat and clean in appearance.
• ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK (Minimum qualifications necessary
to function at full productivity).
A. EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent required Valid MN Class D driver's license, with clean driving record
B. EXPERIENCE:
General computer skills required. Home delivery experience preferred.
History of creating efficient delivery routes preferred. Experience in providing education or instruction to customers.
C. JOB KNOWLEDGE (Specific):
Proficient understanding of the durable medical equipment industry, equipment and products available.
Familiar with roads and towns within 80 mile radius of branch location.
Required to assemble equipment according to manufacturer instructions.
• BUDGET: N/A
• CLIENTELE DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY JOB: This position will interact with all
areas of the Rice Healthcare Organization, to include but not limited to Branch Manager, Materials Manager, Operations Director, Customer Service Reps, Rice Home Medical Sales and Marketing Staff. This position interacts directly with Rice Home Medical patients and referrals requiring durable medical equipment, products and services and internally with Customer Service and In-House Sales Representatives.
• PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB: In an average 10 hour day the employee
lifts/carries up to 65 pounds frequently and up to 125 lbs. maximum. In an average 10 hour day the employee stands/walks 1-3 hours, sits 1-2 hours and drives 4-6 hours, data entry .5-1 hour. While installing or delivering equipment, employee is required to stoop, kneel, twist and reach to adequately perform necessary tasks.
• PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB: Warehouse setting with adequate
light and temperature. 90% minimal noise, 10% moderate noise from warehouse and power tools. Delivery vehicle equipped with safety bulk head and necessary tie straps. A large portion of time is spent driving or in a patient's home, home conditions vary from home to home.
• EQUIPMENT OR MACHINES USED ON THE JOB: Basic computers/tablets
with Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, E-mail, cell phone, photocopiers, scanner, fax machine, calculator, and industry specific software. Equipment clinical in nature such as oxygen concentrators, nebulizers, power scooters, hospital beds, patient lifts, and wheelchairs. Basic tools both manual and power used in assembly and minor repair of equipment.
• MENTAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:
Must be able to manage multiple projects, multitask, work with many different personalities, as well as other stressful situations.
A. JUDGEMENT AND INITIATIVE: Demonstrates good judgment and
analysis. Exercises high level of investigation and understanding related to providing a positive customer experience. Must be autonomous, flexible, self-motivated and able to use time well with minimal supervision.
B. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Required to make daily decisions relating to
efficient delivery route and customer satisfaction. Ability to research alternate solutions. Complex decisions require investigation and research working directly with management for resolution.
C. EFFECT OF ERROR: Negative effect on financial condition of Rice Home
Medical and Rice Memorial Hospital as well as customer dissatisfaction due to negative customer experiences. Inadequate education of proper use of equipment could lead to patient harm. Errors are addressed with reeducation by management.
D. CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Regular daily contact with customers of Rice
Home Medical, referrals and with other Rice Home Medical employees. Occasional contact with Rice Memorial Hospital employees and vendors.

1. Full working knowledge of durable medical equipment and supplies available through Rice Home Medical.
2. Schedule efficient daily delivery route, in a cost effective manner, minimizing unnecessary miles and backtracking.
3. Responsible for safe operation of and routine care of company vehicles according to Rice Home Medical policies and procedures.
4. Be familiar with and adhere to all regulatory and safety procedures which related to the delivery of oxygen and related equipment.
5. Set-up equipment in patient's home, adhering to manufacturer guidelines.
6. Provide education to customer and/or customer's representatives including general operation of equipment and safety precautions.
7. Review documents with customers including insurance related documents, obtain signatures and answer billing related questions.
8. Document asset numbers delivered for tracking purposes. 9. Provide recommendations to customers regarding products
available through Rice Home Medical to improve their quality of life.
B. RESPONSIBILITY: Equipment Maintenance & Inventory Control PRIORITY: A % OF TIME: 30% DISCRETION: A TASKS:
1. Perform equipment checks and service of oxygen equipment and related equipment following Rice Home Medical policy and procedure.
2. Conduct oxygen equipment performance checks in customers' home. Verifying machine performance and patient compliance.
3. Clean and sanitize equipment after customer use, performing minor repairs when needed.
4. Document equipment checks, cleaning and repairs in approved asset maintenance tracking system.
C. RESPONSIBILITY: Preform Other Related Duties Assigned

1. Responsible for attendance at in store in-services and meetings and other workshops to stay current with job responsibilities and a minimum of 6 hours of education each year.
2. Punctual attendance without habitual tardiness or absence without authorization.
3. Maintain customer confidentiality and adhere to HIPPA regulations in relation to customers PHI at all times.
4. Preform other duties assigned by management.
