Job Description: The Senior Operations Manager leads the Enterprise-wide pharmaceutical utilization and expense management initiatives managed by Essentia Health and its associated partners. The Senior Operations Manager will be responsible for creating and implementing a comprehensive strategy for optimizing the use of outpatient pharmaceuticals within the organization. The use of pharmaceuticals includes: appropriateness of therapy, cost-effectiveness of therapy, medication safety, PDL adherence, adherence to therapy, and convenience of therapy. The associated strategy will include the integration and coordination of following Essentia Health's departments to synergistically manage the use of pharmaceuticals: clinical pharmacy team, intermediate pharmacy care management team, managed care team (outpatient prior authorizations) and pharmaceutical education team.

The Senior Operations Manager will be responsible for developing and overseeing an evidence-based and value-based process to enable the selection and use of safe, effective and affordable medications.

The Senior Operations Manager and associated teams will be responsible for creating and maintaining the Essentia Health Preferred Drug List (PDL), the clinical deployment of the PDL and execution through applicable stakeholders/systems. The PDL will be coordinated with: pharmaceutical contracting/GPO, PBM network partners, Inpatient and Outpatient pharmacies, Specialty Pharmacy and Mail Order operation. The Senior Operations Manager will create and maintain relationships with the operational units within Essentia including Population Health, hospital and clinic operations to advance the optimal use of medications by Essentia Health prescribers in support of Essentia's broader ACO strategies.

Education Qualifications:
Required:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree
  • 2 or more years' experience as a clinical pharmacist or pharmacy management

Preferred:
  • At least two years of experience in managed health care or pharmacy programs is preferred
  • Knowledge of Medicare Part D requirements and HPMS submission processes is preferred
  • Expertise in clinical program components, formulary designs, and prescription drug benefit trends is required
  • Experience working with clinic operations, provider relations, working within various payor environments, and risk management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Planning and organizational skills to demonstrate leadership and initiative
  • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently, as well as a member of a team
  • Strong analytical and PC operation skills


Licensure/CertificationQualifications:
  • Current Pharmacist license to practice in the applicable state (MN, WI or ND) or the ability to provide proof of licensure within 90 days from date of employment
