Controller/Lender
Department: Executive
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer/President Holding Company
Supervises: Accounts Payable

Summary
Directs recordkeeping and accounting activities of the financial institution and holding company. Makes recommendations relating to budget preparation, profit forecasts and operational change as needed. Ensures prompt and accurate accounting and reporting. Is the key contact on all accounting and tax issues.

Specific Job Functions Controller/Lender:

Assist staff on a daily basis with questions or problems and provide resolutions to the problems as well as training to the staff.
Review financial institution's general ledger accounts, interest income and interest expense daily for accuracy.
Responsible for accounting on nonaccrual and charge off loans to accurately record payments on the general ledger and maintain for nonaccruals a true loan history for payoff purposes; therefore, must review general ledger wash accounts daily and clear timely.
Input and analyze fixed asset and depreciation records quarterly in compliance with IRS guidelines, entries made monthly.
Oversee financial functions of the financial institution.
Determine taxable income and process distributions to Holding Company and shareholders and process shareholder interest payments on debt.
Oversee financial functions of non-bank subsidiary (transactions and financial statements).
Present reports to the Board of Directors and senior management for various purposes or projects.
Balance financial institution's investment portfolio monthly and quarterly review FASB 115 valuation.
Generate special reports as needed for projects using report generator program.
Serve as administrative trustee of the Holding Company's non-bank trust subsidiary.
Handle historical credit loss and implementation of CECL
Contact prospects and customers for new business
Establish structure of loans within framework of loan policy and extended agricultural loans up to stated lending limit
Ensure the completion of proper documentation
Monitor loans in repayment
Develop credit relations with agricultural customers and promote bank services
Provide service to customers and prospective customers seeking commercial loans and develop relationships with customers and promote bank services
Prepare renewals and extensions as requested
Develop positive working relationships with commercial, retail and investment areas
Participate in community and business organizations and events
Maintain product knowledge that assists in establishing full banking relationships with mortgage customers
Ability to multi-task, organize projects and prioritize
Ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality
Strong mathematical aptitude


Job Specifications:

Work Direction: This position reports to the CEO and President of Holding Company; however, most of the work is done independently. This position has access to and knowledge of the entire financial situation and receives some guidance from financial institution policies. The utmost discretion and confidentiality must be exercised with all data.

Work Relationships: This position has daily contact with staff and upper management and periodic contact with regulatory and external auditors. Individual must be able to communicate in a clear, concise and pleasant manner.
Supervision: Accounts Payable Department

Job Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science degree in accounting, financial management or business administration.
Seven to ten years of progressively more responsible experience in a banking or financial management environment.
Extensive background in financial institution accounting, operations, and policies and procedures.
Excellent analytical skills, including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to handle all demands in a timely manner and must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills as this position interfaces with all levels and departments of the financial institution.
Must use sound judgment and discretion in making many independent decisions.
Excellent organizational and management skills.
Must be proficient with Microsoft Excel/Word/Outlook, fixed asset depreciation software, regulatory reporting software, and financial institution core systems software.
