JOB SUMMARY

Supports compliance with privacy related federal and state laws, regulations, and rules governing healthcare entities. This includes the rules and regulations related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Security, Data Breach, Red Flag Rules, Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH), and any other privacy related requirements. Prepares audit tools, conducts audits, and provides analysis and recommendations as part of comprehensive privacy audit program. Takes reports and analyzes possible instances of data breach and support other privacy compliance projects as assigned. Process HIPAA-related patient requests such as amendments and restrictions to protected health information. Performs investigations as necessary and communicates audits in a responsible report format. Works collaboratively throughout investigations and provides appropriate follow-up to applicable parties. Possesses excellent interactive skills in working directly with both professionals and patients. Carries out ad hoc requests from superior as necessary.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Designs confidential investigation processes, coursework, and communications. Resolves HIPAA issues and considerations for specific organization. Conduct or direct the internal investigation of compliance issues. Gathers appropriate documentation, forms of identification, medical certificates or loss proofs to effectively prepare for investigations. Implements claim investigation processes; summarizes claim content. Communicates and analyzes assumptions about a particular issue with colleagues to gain new perspectives or more effective solutions. Produces accurate and appropriately detailed documentation to support confidential investigations. Develops proactive awareness strategies to reduce complaint activity. Develops a system to monitor and track complaint outcomes and report trends. Secures feedback regarding program success. Reinforces positive contributions and recommends adjustments for improving outcomes. Creates a team environment of accountability and commitment for reaching project goals. Advises on federal, state or local laws and applies them to the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or its equivalent is required. Advanced diploma or degree in a related field is preferred. Two years of healthcare related work experience is required; prior relevant compliance work experience is preferable. Possesses a working knowledge of federal and state regulations.
