Job Details

Under the direct supervision of the Dialysis Operations Coordinator or Clinical Coordinator, performs various duties assisting in the treatment and care of patients in accordance with established methods and procedures of the hospital.


JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

A. REPORTS TO: Operations Coordinator

B. SUPERVISES: None

C. INTERRELATIONSHIPS WITH: Patients/ families, and all staff


HOURS OF WORK: Variable


DRESS CODE: Per unit dress code.


ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK (Minimum qualifications necessary to function at full productivity).

A. EDUCATION AND TRAINING: High School graduation or equivalent work experience, including ability to read, write computer knowledge and comprehend medical terminology.

B. EXPERIENCE: Previous experience as a nursing assistant preferred, or has satisfactorily completed training program.

C. JOB KNOWLEDGE (Specific): Working knowledge of personal care activities, transfer techniques, dialysis standards of care, and infection control.

EQUIPMENT OR MACHINES USED ON THE JOB: R O systems, Hemodialysis machine, and equipment. Wheelchairs, Likorall lift, and computer.

A. JUDGEMENT AND INITIATIVE: Essentially works under direction, of licensed staff, need to be able to perform at independent level and minimal direction.

B. INDEPENDENT ACTION: Work involves a variety of duties that are performed according to procedure but requires alertness to identify needed changes.

C. EFFECT OF ERROR: Potential patient care error.

D. CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Frequent contact with patients, unit staff, public, and hospital staff.


PRINCIPAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS, AND AUTHORITIES:

A. RESPONSIBILITY: Receptionist Activities

PRIORITY: A % OF TIME: 5% DISCRETION: D

TASKS: 1. Receives, greets and directs patients, visitors and hospital personnel

arriving on or calling that patient care unit. 2. Observes hospital and unit policy in assisting and directing patients, staff

and visitors.

PRIORITY: A % OF TIME: 10% DISCRETION: D

TASKS: 1. Records and delivers messages for patients and staff. 2. Receives and distributes mail, flowers, and various other items for

patients on the unit. 3. Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials, supplies and equipment

inventory on assigned unit. 4. Maintains a clean, safe and functional working environment. Does daily,

weekly, and bi-monthly cleaning. 5. Computer activities

6. Prints connect sheets. 7. Enter monthly lab orders in electronic medical record. 8. Assist with patient scheduling.

AUTHORITIES:

C. RESPONSIBILITY: Patient Treatment Activities

PRIORITY: A % OF TIME: 85% DISCRETION: D

TASKS: 1. Transports patients to and from various areas, as necessary. 2. Performs water analysis daily. 3. Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by reporting

equipment that is out of order, reporting other problems to management, cleaning equipment, as assigned, and preparing same for disinfection, and receiving linen and supply stock on the unit.

4. Establishes and maintains interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors and other hospital personnel, while assuring confidentiality of patient information.

5. Communicates any patient, concerns to a nurse. 6. Attends in-service education programs as assigned. 7. Makes on and off packs occasionally. 8. Strips, cleans dialysis machine, and sanitizes for each treatment 9. Reports any breaks in skin to charge nurse. 10. Distributes nourishments. 11. Disinfect RO every other week. 12. Hold patients post run needle sites as needed per nurse request (not a

usual occurrence). 13. Draw water cultures as directed. 14. Other related duties. 15. Answer call lights 16. Assist with patient ambulation to build tolerance. 17. Transfers in and out of bed, chairs, wheelchair and other means of moving a

patient. 18. CPR and the related activities. To be change position to do chest

compressions. 19. Patient cares done with assistance or alone depending on needs of patients

on any shift. Lifting and moving patients, and positioning a patient's extremity in the units.

TASKS: 1. Consistently follow all policies, practices and work rules. 2. Do not use shortcuts or "work-arounds" that may reduce safety or

increase risk. 3. Stay alert, act responsibly and use common sense to reduce risks. 4. Report "actual events" and "good catches" as soon as possible. 5. Create a safe environment by eliminating hazards and identifying and

reporting unsafe systems. 6. Complete all mandatory safety education, attend safety sessions, review

and understand the Safety Program (available on RiceNet). Seek answers to questions you have about the Safety Program.
