JOB SUMMARY

The Carpenter is responsible for all carpentry tasks and assists the construction and facilities services staff with all aspects of constructing and remodeling. Familiar with all tools associated with the trade. Capable of working from blueprints and sketches. Knowledge of codes, cost estimates, and ability to interpret specifications helpful. Capable of accurate written and oral communication involving procedures, situations, and equipment. Constructs, erects, installs, and repair structures and fixtures. Assists with flooring, ceiling installation and systems, cabinets and millwork, wall protection, doors and hardware, wall covering removal, wall and floor expansion joints, marker boards, tack boards, modular furniture, clocks, and interior signage. May also install cabinets, siding, drywall and batt or roll insulation. Must have a thorough knowledge of carpentry techniques and tools. Must take extra precautions when working in patient care areas and specifically, keep tools out of reach of children. Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required. Build or repair cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, or other wooden fixtures used in buildings, using woodworking machines, carpenter's hand tools, or power tools. Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines, or power saws. Install structures or fixtures, such as windows, frames, floorings, trim, or hardware, using carpenters' hand or power tools. Erect or dismantle scaffolding, shoring, braces, traffic barricades, ramps, or other temporary structures. Perform business management duties, such as maintaining records or files, preparing reports, or ordering supplies or equipment. Inspect ceiling or floor tile, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures. Coordinates with internal support functions to meet unique client needs. Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

When applicable, may need a valid driver's license. If valid driver's license is required, must maintain a good driving record. High School Diploma or GED preferred. Trade or Vocational School preferred.
