Qualifications

   

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Doctorate degree in Communication or related field; effective communication skills; ability to relate complex concepts to diverse audiences; record of effective teaching, ability to read, write, and understand English; and ability to demonstrate cultural competency within the scope of the land grant mission. Final job offer is contingent upon a complete background check, authorization to work in the United States, and receipt of official transcripts.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctorate degree in Digital Media and Publishing; Professional Communication; Rhetoric, Writing, and Media; Organizational Communication; or related field.  Campus and online teaching experience; research experience in an academic institution; industry experience; and experience with externally funded projects and grants.

 

About the Job

   

POSITION: Full-time, nine-month tenure track position in Communication in the Liberal Arts and Education Department at the Crookston campus of the University of Minnesota starting August 19, 2019.  Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.  A competitive fringe benefits package is offered.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teaching, research, and service including deliver high-quality undergraduate instruction to students in the Communication program. Must deliver all courses on campus and online. Courses (4/4 teaching load) may include Organizational Communication; Public Relations; Communication Technology Trends; Corporate Training; Interpersonal Communication; Visual Communication, Public Speaking, and potentially others. New courses may be proposed based upon needs of the program and candidate expertise. May include the ability to teach students to produce and edit web-based/mobile graphics and digital content, such as visuals, newsletters, magazines, e-publications, radio programs, podcasts, and/or other. The faculty member is expected to establish his/her own research program. Service is required in accordance with tenure track criteria. The faculty member is expected to help further develop the program; advise students; and participate in recruitment, assessment, and retention efforts.
