Job Details

The Endoscopy Technician is responsible for high level disinfection of endoscopes; sets up and tests endoscopes and special instruments for each case; checks and documents maximum effective concentration of high level disinfectant; inspects endoscopes daily; assists the RN and physician during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy; completes random endoscope and AED cultures monthly; completes and documents the disinfection of AED water lines; contacts endoscope manufacturer for return authorization for equipment repairs and requests loaner equipment; participates in measuring and monitoring Quality and assures specimens obtained during procedures are transported to the appropriate labs. Patients cared for include those in the following age groups: infancy, childhood, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

Essential Job Functions :
1. Responsible for high level disinfection of endoscopes following standard operating procedure. Coordinates equipment processing to meet scheduling needs.
2. Sets up and tests endoscopes and special instruments for each case. Communicates with Elective Procedures for sharing of endoscopes.
3. Checks and documents maximum effective concentration of high level disinfectant in all containers and changes as needed.
4. Inspects endoscopes daily, assessing for any potential problems with endoscopes and equipment. Troubleshoots equipment and communicates any concerns to the Ambulatory Procedure Center (APC) Supervisor and Biomedical Engineering.
5. Checks and documents the program for the automatic endoscope disinfector (AED) daily.
6. Assists the RN and physician during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, i.e., assisting with manual massage, setting up cautery, assisting with biopsies, initiates pathology forms, etc.
7. Assures required maintenance on AED is completed and documents the filter changes.
8. Completes random endoscope and AED cultures monthly and gives report to APC Supervisor.
9. Completes and documents the disinfection of AED water lines.
10. Contacts endoscope manufacturer for return authorization for equipment repairs and requests loaner equipment. Responsible for sending equipment in for repairs with appropriate paperwork.
11. Participates in measuring and monitoring Quality indicators and outcomes.
12. Assures specimens obtained during procedures are transported to the appropriate labs.
13. Demonstrates the ability to adjust own workload to meet fluctuation in patient census and acuity.
14. Demonstrates understanding and follows infection control policies and procedures according to standard operating procedure.

Required:
• High school diploma or the equivalent.
• Certified by the North Dakota State Department of Health as a Certified Nursing Assistant or
• Registration by North Dakota Board of Nursing as a Nurse Assistant or an Unlicensed Assistive Person or
• Those who have in the past never been licensed or certified as a Nurse Assistant or Unlicensed Assistive Person or a Certified Nurse Aide may obtain registration by the North Dakota Board of Nursing as an Unlicensed Assistive Person within the first four (4) months of employment by completion of a return demonstration.
• Successful completion of the functional assessment.

Preferred:
• Previous experience in a health care setting.
