JOB SUMMARY

Examines heartbeat patterns on electrocardiograph (EKG) monitors to detect any abnormal heart rhythms. Assists physicians in emergency responses to heart irregularities. Observes an electrocardiograph (EKG) monitor and examines heartbeat patterns to identify any abnormal variations in heart rhythms. Recognizes emergency situations and informs physicians so immediate medical action can be taken. Records the hearts electrical activities using an EKG monitor and checks the quality of recorded material. Orders and stocks supplies as necessary. Prints an EKG report, detailing a patients cardiovascular condition, for physician interpretation and diagnosis.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Adheres to established technical standards and procedures for electrocardiography. Attach electrodes to the patients' chest, arms, and legs, connect electrodes to leads from the electrocardiogram (EKG) machine, and operate the EKG machine to obtain a reading. Check, test, and maintain cardiology equipment, making minor repairs when necessary, to ensure proper operation. Conducts basic cleaning and disinfection tasks within healthcare facilities to create a neat healthcare environment. Ensures that all equipment or related supplies are in proper working order prior to use. Identifies regular processes and procedures for electrocardiography. Identifies the adequate inventory levels required for efficiency. Monitor patients' blood pressure and heart rate using electrocardiogram (EKG) equipment during diagnostic or therapeutic procedures to notify the physican if something appears to be wrong. Monitor patients' comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities or changesi n patient responses. Transcribe, type, and distribute reports of diagnostic procedures for interpretation by physician.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) encouraged but not required. Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is preferred. High school diploma or its equivalent is required.
