Primary focus: Physician practice with occasional sports coverage

The Athletic Trainer assists with coordinating patient care in the physician's practice. This position performs and functions as a first assistant, applies and removes all types of casts, appropriate dressings, splints, and other orthopedic appliances and equipment. Coordinates the administration of the athletic training program at assigned school, and documents assessments and treatment programs. Works cooperatively and is actively engaged in the teaching of fellows, residents, athletic trainers, and other student.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Assists with patient education involving the whole patient care and treatment plan according to validated skill level.
  • Performs and functions as a first assistant by demonstrating appropriate skill level of procedures under the supervision of the Orthopedic Physician
  • Applies and removes all types of casts, appropriate dressings, splints, traction and other orthopedic appliances and equipment according to standard operating procedure.
  • Performs on-site injury assessment and treatment including first aid and Basic Life Support (BLS). Performs injury prevention services through identification of predisposing conditions and utilization of protective taping and bracing.
  • Assists student athletes with physician referral and works with providers to return the athlete to play safely. Provides concussion management services utilizing IMPACT testing.
  • Coordinates the administration of the athletic training program at assigned schools, including site visits, event coverage and sports related education and training.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Required:
  • Licensed in the state of North Dakota as an Athletic Trainer or those who are licensure eligible will obtain an Athletic Trainer licensure in the state of North Dakota prior to their start date.
  • For those Athletic Trainers assigned to work in Minnesota: Licensed in the state of Minnesota as an Athletic Trainer or those who are licensure eligible will obtain an Athletic Trainer license in the state of Minnesota prior to their start date.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of the functional assessment.
