Hiring Department: The Office of the Vice Provost and President for Academic Affairs


Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification: Commensurate with Experience/Annual, Full-time, Benefitted, Exempt
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, long-term care insurance, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans.
Work Schedule:  Monday-Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm; and as required to complete duties and responsibilities.

The successful candidate will provide executive, administrative, and advisory support to senior administrators and/or the Academic Affairs Division constituents including areas such as strategic planning, project management, risk management, compliance assurance, human resources, operational structure and organization, contracts, or constituent/Board relations. May lead these activities and/or collaborate with employees responsible for these areas.
Provides advice and representation on a broad range of matters including rendering verbal and written advice on Academic Affairs subjects; recommending strategic and tactical initiatives; working with appropriate senior administration and the General Counsel; interprets and implements constitutional, statutory and administrative rule requirements; negotiates and drafts contracts and advises on other transactional matters; assists senior administrators with risk management strategies; and provides training and assistance in the development of institutional policies, procedures and programs.
 

  1. Provide support and represent Academic Affairs for other activities and needs. Assists senior Academic Affairs administrators/managers with risk management and operations strategies Consult and advise on Academic Affairs activities, policies and processes Manage and coordinate grievances, issues, and investigations, related to, arising from, or involving faculty and high-level Academic Affairs personnel Policies and procedures management Supervise, manage and coordinate faculty hiring and employment processes; and in coordination with Human Resources perform assessment of requests for exceptions and special circumstances related to employees in the division of Academic Affairs Supervision and advising Academic Affairs Specialist


Required Competencies:

  • Sound judgment and the critical thinking skills to make well-reasoned, effective decisions
  • Advanced computer proficiency with Windows-based or other similar software packages involving: spreadsheets, databases, word-processing, and presentation applications, including experience working with large and complex data sets.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • work effectively on compliance or policy issues;
    • communicate effectively with a variety of constituents within and external to the campus community;
    • translate observations, findings, and recommendations into concise written reports, or oral presentations; and
    • analyze and develop written policies and procedures.
  • Exhibited attention to detail and long-term risk assessment

Minimum Requirements:

  • Juris Doctorate required
  • Compliance or policy related experience.
  • Experience and demonstrated understanding of employment law fundamentals including, FMLA, ADA, ADEA and other laws and controlling frameworks.
  • Experience with contract drafting principles
  • Successful completion of Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of supervisory experience
  • Significant experience dealing with federal, state, and organization compliance matters
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations; knowledge of proper investigation techniques and procedures
