Job Details

The Supervisor of Physical Medicine and Therapy Services works with the PMTS leadership team in all aspects of the budget process including billing and charge systems. The Supervisor directs department process and policy as well as initiating and monitoring therapy related programming and services. The supervisor is involved in all aspects of staffing, hiring, performance evaluation and work development plans for staff. The supervisor will act as a resource to department staff, physicians and other Altru staff on issues related to the provision of therapy and other PMTS services. The PMTS Supervisor will provide direct patient care in the area in which they are licensed. The position demonstrates an understanding of the budget, keeping within fiscal parameters and assures compliance of Joint Commission, federal and state regulations and CARF standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Supports and models behaviors consistent with the mission, vision and values of Altru Health System.
  2. Advises Manager of significant and/or unexpected variances. Demonstrates an understanding of the budget and assists the Manager in keeping within fiscal parameters. Assists the Manager in requests for capital expenditures.
  3. Supervises work processes and monitors trends and outcomes for assigned areas regarding workload assuring appropriate provider productivity and proper management of financial and human resources.
  4. Functions as a resource to staff and physicians regarding patient care and patient/customer issues.
  5. Provides therapy/services to patients/customers according to licensure requirements maintaining clinical skills.
  6. Carries out the hiring process for Manager-approved positions. Provides information and makes recommendations to the Manager on disciplinary action and separation related decisions.
  7. Supervises employee performance and progress and completes performance evaluations while providing career and professional development opportunities to staff.
  8. Coordinates staffing and scheduling duties in accordance with established procedure and practices. Promotes continuous staff participation in the Peer Review/Peer Input process.
  9. Effectively facilitates staff meetings, assuring staff is provided with clear, pertinent and timely information.
  10. Monitors services for efficiency and accuracy by evaluating, initiating and participating in restructuring of current and new procedures, services, and/or programs.
  11. Identifies and conducts follow up on patient and customer satisfaction surveys including unsatisfactory outcomes, customer service issues, unusual findings, special needs and requests and reports issues to the Manager and Altru Risk Manager, as required.
  12. Assures compliance of Joint Commission, CARF, federal and state regulations and third party reimbursement standards and guidelines.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Require:

  • Graduate of a Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech/Language Pathology, or Athletic Training program.
  • Licensure as required for the specialty by the states of North Dakota and Minnesota.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience.
  • Experience in goal development and implementation.
  • Experience in directing daily staff functions and activities.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrates the ability to the resourceful and creative.
  • Demonstrates the ability to be outwardly engaging, approachable and flexible.
  • Demonstrates the ability to motivate people and identify, coordinate and apply available resources effectively to achieve desired program outcomes.
  • Successful completion of the functional assessment.
