Summary: The primary function of this position is to take ownership for planning and implementing a marketing plan for our daily broadcast and trigger emails. Duties include running email marketing campaigns end-to-end and managing email databases. The Digital Marketing Specialist will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the strategic organizational goals and apply this understanding to implement and execute email marketing plans that will deliver desired results. This position will work closely with other Digital Marketing Specialists providing mentorship and guidance and will collaborate cross-functionally with the web marketing and customer service teams.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Utilize in-depth knowledge of SHP's marketing goals to collaborate with current email staff to plan aggressive email marketing promotions each month for a segment of our email list.
  • Provide daily hands-on execution of email marketing programs in support of company objectives.
  • Manage and develop ongoing testing; continually optimize, analyze, A/B test and make recommendations on improving email channel key performance indicators.
  • Make data-driven recommendations for segmentation and email targeting, in alignment with company strategic priorities.
  • Implementation and reporting of Swanson transactional emails including messaging, content, and timing.
  • Manage triggered and behavior-based campaigns, implementing new automated series and optimizing existing campaigns including welcome series and cart abandon series.
  • Manage the coordination, work flow, schedule, and execution of various recurring and automated Swanson emails.
  • Own and execute one-off email sends including order updates and product notifications.
  • Work closely with department staff to create and proof source codes and promo codes.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report email campaign results and performance, summarizing key insights and offering recommendations for future improvements.
  • Coordinate regular email reviews with key stakeholders including designers, content and merchandisers to ensure cross-functional alignment.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced Digital Marketing peers.
  • Stay current with best practices, strategies and industry standards related to email; ensure best practices through email compliance and share email program insights and recommendations with managers and colleagues
  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service.
  • Conducts self in the presence of customers and community so as to present a professional image of SHP.


  • Competencies Required:

    • Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC)/ Exact Target platform, including Content Builder & Journey Builder
    • Experience building emails using SFMC WYSIWYG, HTML and CSS
    • Experience managing email databases, creating complex segmentation and A/B tests
    • Understand industry best practices related to email development
    • Comfortably handle change requests and provide quick and efficient solutions
    • Ability to manage change in fast paced environment
    • Uses SFMC Ampscript, scripting language, to build dynamic content into HTML
    • Develop and execute relevant testing strategies for operational tasks
    • Advanced knowledge of ecommerce and online shopping
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Possess analytical skills and be able to identify problems and formulate practical solutions
    • Proven creative skills
    • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
    • Meticulous attention to detail, commitment to producing quality work, deadline conscious.
    • Ability to multitask
    • Ability to interface with all levels personnel

    Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
    Education and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Management or Business Administration and 3-5 years' experience in web marketing. Or; an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and duties of the job as listed above.
