Job Details

Position Description:
The Forest Stewardship Specialist provides field services and support statewide. The Specialist serves as liaison to cooperating agencies providing technical and financial assistance for the management and protection of native, riparian and planted forest resources. Duties include both office and field responsibilities promoting Forest Stewardship and related programs and directing landowner assistance to implement forestry best management practices. The Specialist assists the Stewardship Manager with technical and financial assistance to private landowners.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Forestry or related natural resource field with forest management or related natural resource courses
  • One (1) year of directly related natural resource management experience
  • Experience in effectively coordinating with landowners, and local, state, or federal institutions on natural resource management practices
  • Valid North Dakota driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Computer experience (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Aptitude for GIS , GPS and related technology
  • Ability to use forestry tools
  • Highly motivated, dedicated, outgoing, confident and ethical
  • Adaptable to change
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a team and with staff and partners
  • Willing to travel alone, stay overnight and work in semi-remote areas
  • Excellent organization, prioritization and time management skills
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work safely

Physical Demands:
Employee is required, with or without accommodations, to:

See, talk or hear and lift up to ten pounds - continuously.

Stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl and lift up to 25 pounds - frequently.

Taste or smell, and lift up to fifty pounds - occasionally.
