Job Summary

The Computer Information Systems Department at the College of St. Scholastica seeks a dynamic faculty member to join our program as a Visiting Assistant/Associate Professor starting either January 2019 or September 2019. Candidate should have demonstrated commitment to teaching undergraduate courses and mentoring students. This a visiting faculty position starting January 2019 and continuing through May 2021 with a possible extension after that.

The CIS Department offers a student-centered, undergraduate degree in CS/CIS. The department embraces creative teaching methods and offers a wide range of classroom and online courses. The CIS program is one of the oldest in the field, serving students for more than 30 years.

The College of St. Scholastica was founded in 1912 and is a private, Catholic, Benedictine institution with a broad range of programs in the liberal arts and sciences and the professions. It offers bachelors, masters and professional doctoral degrees and serves over 4,000 students in traditional, extended, and on-line programs.

The main campus is located on the western shore of Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota — recently named the #1 Best Town by Outside magazine — and sits on the doorstep to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, one of the Nation’s most treasured wilderness areas. Duluth, a community of approximately 87,000, offers the amenities and services of a larger community, in a small-town atmosphere.

Key Results/Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include teaching courses across the undergraduate CIS curriculum including courses on the Duluth campus, online courses, advising students, participating in the continued development of our curriculum, and actively participating in the other faculty responsibilities within the department and college.

Required Qualifications

- A graduate-level degree in a computer-related field
- Excellent teaching and communication skills
- Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills
- Willingness to support the College’s mission and Catholic Benedictine values

Preferred Qualifications

- The ability to effectively teach a wide variety of introductory and advanced undergraduate classes
- Experience with online education
- Relevant industry experience and/or doctoral work.
