JOB SUMMARY

Establishes short and long-term labor relations strategies across all Sanford Health. In conjunction with HR and operations leadership, develops and recommends labor relations objectives, policies and practices. In partnership with local HR leadership and operations, develops union avoidance strategies including assessment of risk and recommends initiatives aimed at continuously improving employee engagement. Develops strategies and guidance for maintaining harmonious and productive labor relations with all labor unions. Establishes internal labor relations stakeholder committee and regularly provides this group with updates and brings key decisions as they arise. Represents Sanford in all collective bargaining and labor relations matters. Negotiates collective bargaining agreements between Sanford Health and labor unions. Ensures operational and HR leaders are informed throughout the negotiation process. In partnership with the HR Strategic Partners, interprets, administers and disseminates the substance of collective bargaining agreements to all levels of management and assures consistent interpretation, application and compliance with collective bargaining commitments. Works with Employee Relations, HR Strategic Partners and Total Rewards to administer the labor relations program to attain and assure consistent interpretation and application of contractual commitments throughout Sanford. Minimizes unresolved grievances and promotes productive and harmonious labor relations. Consults with and advises legal and/or other leaders on the impact of programs on contractual agreements. Develops and administers education for HR and operational leaders on grievance and dispute procedures, including arbitration, mediation, fact-finding and labor management relations. Must possess extensive knowledge of the special policy, legal and substantive aspects of labor relations. Ability to develop productive collective bargaining relationships with organizations representing employees of varied skills and abilities and to effectively communicate with others both orally and in writing.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Economics, Personnel Administration, Public Administration, Management, Law or related field required. Eight years of progressively responsible experience in the negotiation and administration of collective bargaining agreements, including at least five years in an administrative labor relations capacity in a large multi-bargaining unit organization.
