Job Details

Position Description:
The position is an 11-month department head position in the Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Sciences ( HNES ) Department. A primary role of this position is to enhance and promote the department mission, strategic plan, and goals. Responsibilities include: providing overall leadership for the department including academic programs, faculty, budgets, facilities, and personnel. Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
• Provide administrative leadership and support for academic programs, research and outreach.
• Foster creativity, scholarly activity and research among faculty.
• Promote and represent the department within the university and among key stakeholders.
• Facilitate curriculum development and change in each of the academic programs within the department.
• Support a collegial and professional work environment within the department.
• Manage and maintain the facilities of the department for purposes of education and research.
• Prepare and administer the HNES annual budget based upon the needs of the department, and in consultation with the Dean of the College of Human Development and Education.
• Supervise and evaluate the performance of each faculty and staff member.
• Assess and make recommendations specific to faculty tenure and advancements in rank.
• Recommend to the College Dean appointments, changes in salary, leaves of absence, developmental leaves, dismissals, retirements and other matters affecting department personnel.
• Oversee course offerings and requirements for academic programs.
• Direct effective student advising for academic programs in the HNES department.
• Assign responsibilities to each staff member with input from the department staff.
• Prepare department reports required by the Dean and other administrative officers.
• Recommend the purchase and maintenance of adequate and appropriate equipment and be responsible for all equipment and supplies assigned to the department.
• Serve on department, college, and university committees as appropriate.
• Extend service to the community as appropriate to enhance the image of the department, college, and university.

Minimum Qualifications:
The Department of Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Science is seeking a candidate with the following qualifications:
A terminal degree in the candidate's field of study aligned with the Department of Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Sciences
Evidence of effective oral and written communication
Effective interpersonal skills
A demonstrated ability to effectively lead groups of people
Ability to work collaboratively and collegially
A demonstrated ability to conduct and publish research
A history of securing grants
University teaching experience
A scholarly record compatible with the rank of Associate Professor at NDSU

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience leading multidisciplinary groups
Administrative experience in higher education
Demonstrated ability to create a supportive and collaborative environment
Experience managing budgets
A scholarly record compatible with the rank of Professor at NDSU
Ability to take a visionary approach to implementing NDSU's strategic plan
