JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Professor will be actively engaged in the medical and surgical education of surgery residents, and surgical faculty in North Dakota and South Dakota.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Grand Rounds presentation to each surgery residency campus yearly. Active participation in faculty development presentations and performance evaluation of faculty for each campus.Assistance with resident and faculty scholarly activity: peer-reviewed publications, surgical research, didactic surgical education. Assisting with mock oral exams on both campuses yearly. Assist with animal lab simulation training i.e: porcine labs for trauma. Serve as a mentor to a surgical resident and/or surgical faculty member. Lend assistance to resident performance evaluations including critical cognitive assessments and surgical skill performance based on level of training (building resident autonomy). Assist residents and faculty on issues of work-life balance and wellness, assisting with physician burnout and coping/communication skills. Serve as a reference or consultant to advance surgical resident, surgical faculty, the medical school and/or Sanford Health overall development, performance indicators and quality outcomes. Endeavor to investigate and contribute to the opportunities for a Rural Surgery Consortium, looking to evaluate the current definition of rural surgery and forces influencing the creation and maintenance of the rural surgeon.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum MS degree in Medical Administration or related field or MS in health care field with minimum of 5 years executive management experience.
