The pharmacy intern shall be oriented to the position of pharmacy

technician and shall work in this area as well as other areas within the scope of pharmacy services as requested by pharmacist preceptor.


JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

A. REPORTS TO: The Pharmacy Intern reports to the Director of Pharmacy or his/her pharmacist designee who is a registered preceptor.

B. SUPERVISES: None

C. INTERRELATIONSHIPS WITH: The Pharmacy Intern will be expected to

work closely with nursing personnel, some physicians, and administration.
HOURS OF WORK: No more than 40 hours/week.
DRESS CODE: Business Casual in accordance with Rice dress code
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS OF WORK

A. EDUCATION AND TRAINING: Actively enrolled in a pharmacy program and licensed as a pharmacy intern with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy.

BUDGET: Reduce waste, learn effective ordering and inventory processes
CLIENTELE DIRECTLY AFFECTED BY JOB: Pharmacy staff, patients.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB: Moderate lifting of less than 25 pounds, long period of time on feet, delivering IV medications and other medications, bending and reaching.


PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT OF THE JOB: Clean, well lighted, good ventilation and

temperature.
EQUIPMENT OR MACHINES USED ON THE JOB: Computer, copier, fax,

Omnicell, bar code scanners
MENTAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB:

A. JUDGEMENT AND INITIATIVE: Will be expected to exercise professional judgment under guidance of a pharmacist.

B. INDEPENDENT ACTION: To complete assigned work and to seek work

experiences as time allows.

C. EFFECT OF ERROR: Errors will be considered as learning experiences. All work will be checked by a registered pharmacist.

D. CONTACT WITH OTHERS: Hospital staff, patients and physicians.


PRINCIPAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES, TASKS, AND AUTHORITIES:

A. RESPONSIBILITY: To take care of all registration requirements with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy (and other states as applicable) Take responsibility to make sure that experience matches the requirements of the internships

B. RESPONSIBILITY: Complete hospital and pharmacy orientation programs. Become proficient in the duties and tasks of a Pharmacy Technician. (See appropriate job descriptions)

C. RESPONSIBILITY: Continuous Quality Improvement

Tasks: 1. Demonstrates understanding of the CQI philosophy 2. Participates in CQI training activities or CQI teams if appropriate 3. Demonstrates sensitivity to customers and their needs 4. Interacts appropriately with internal customers, i.e. coworkers within

department, staff across departments. 5. Interacts appropriately with external customers, i.e. patients, families,

medical staff, vendors. 6. Role models positive behaviors.
