Hiring Department:  Athletics Department - Communication

Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification:  $34,000/Annual, Full-Time, Benefited, Exempt
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans.
Work Schedule:  Monday-Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm   May include evenings, weekends, and holidays.

The University of North Dakota is seeking applicants for an Assistant Director of Communications.  This position will assist the Senior Assistant AD of Communications and other members of the communications staff in all aspects of athletics communications to include but not limited to:

  • Serve as primary communications contact for assigned sports including but not limited to media requests and inquiries, website updates, statistic clerical work, pre/post game information for media.
  • Assist external operations unit in content creation for website and social media
  • Oversee press area at assigned events including student-interns and stat crew
  • Assist with other sports as assigned
  • Ensure that academic award nominations and other award nominations are submitted in a timely manner
  • Participate in various athletic department functions and meetings, as well as UND campus functions and meetings
  • Other duties as assigned by Senior Assistant AD/Communications and Athletics Director

 
Required Competencies:

  • Must have effective professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administrations, alumni, and general public
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and computer skills (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize
  • Must have a commitment to NCAA compliance and follow all NCAA, conference and UND rules and regulations. 
  • Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student athletes including a valid driver’s license. 
  • Strong social media presence and demonstrated use of various social channels to include Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram
  • Cursory knowledge/experience with a host of sports

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree
  • 3 years of full-time or undergraduate/graduate or internship experience in NCAA athletics media relations/communications office
  • Proficiency in desktop publishing
  • Experience working with graphic design to work with provided templates
  • Successful completion of  criminal history background check


In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the US and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. 



Preferred Qualifications:
 

  • Supervisory experience to supervise a full-time staff, graduate assistants, interns, and student assistants as well as game-day event staff
  • Expertise writing in AP Style – including game recaps, features and other news items
  • Experience assisting with television production of sporting events
  • Experience with SIDEARM CMS
  • Experience using the following software:  Adobe InDesign, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat, StatCrew, Microsoft Office
  • Experience working and/or hosting NCAA Championship events
