JOB SUMMARY

Emergency Medical Services Educator (EMS Educator) will provide emergency medical services (EMS) education through Sanford to internal/external customers. This individual will be responsible for providing technical and/or clinical knowledge and expertise in EMS-based scenarios in a simulated environment. Individuals should have a knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. The EMS Educator should have knowledge of various media, communication, pass on techniques, methods, and be able to facilitate simulation learning and participate in debriefing as well as other learning methodologies. This includes alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media. This individual will serve as a simulator operator or clinical expert running pre-programmed scenarios with faculty instructors, assuring all equipment is set up for course programs. The EMS Educator role requires strong interpersonal communication skills and will be providing training for individuals and teams utilizing adult learning principles. This individual should be team-oriented, student focused, and self-directed. Individuals should be able to troubleshoot potential issues with the simulation equipment and vehicles, possess effective collaborative skills, a strong organization ability and the ability to prioritize. The EMS Educator must have knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology. This individual should be knowledgeable of current clinical practice and be actively engaged in incorporating current research and evidence-based practice into learning activities. Additional responsibilities will include coordinating programs, course and class schedules, participating in simulation training for educational programs, serving as a mentor and educator for faculty and staff, assuring all equipment is in working order, participating in product-specific vendor training, reporting any concerns with equipment or vehicle in a timely manner, and maintaining all requirements, licensure and certification.Physical activities include but not limited to will require considerable use of arms and legs and moving of whole body; such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping and handling materials. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25-30lbs. This position may require standing 3-4 hours at a time while teaching.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Participates in delivery of training via various methods for existing lesson plans. Adapts interaction style to situations and people. Shares information, knowledge, and experiences openly and proactively. Works with a variety of multimedia development tools. Communicates well downward, upward, and outward. Participates in the evaluation of the effectiveness of a training intervention. Demonstrates good judgment in deciding when to involve a third party. Uses multiple presentation tools and techniques, adapting/fitting them to audience and topic. Demonstrates knowledge of development and delivery of medical educational for diverse audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS

BLS Certification, BLS Instructor, or nationally registered EMT or higher required. Depending on state requirements, individuals may need to have a state license. Based on the level of classes taught, educational, certifications, and experience background as appropriate to class offering. May need to have NAEMT Instructor/AHA ALS Instructor. High school or equivalent (GED) required; Associates degree in EMS or similar area of study preferred.
