JOB SUMMARY
Provides oversight and expertise to Sanford departments related to data integrity of the electronic medical record (EMR). Oversees and guides correction of documentation errors in accordance with established policies and procedures until the correction is complete. Builds and maintains positive relationships and work collaboratively with team members, operational managers, colleagues, and stakeholders to analyze problems and propose recommended solutions that meet both business and technical needs. Must be able to work with all clinical providers (physicians, nurses, etc.) to resolve date integrity and documentation errors. Maintains required information for tracking through follow up and resolution. Prepares, presents and discusses reports and studies with management, other teams and individuals. Must understand healthcare terminology, business processes, and user issues associated with hospital/clinic practice and have the ability to prepare detailed documents and charts. Must be able to demonstrate analytical skills to help identify and communicate possible prevention strategies based on data analysis. Uses critical thinking and problem solving skills to identify and determine appropriate course for correction process. Guides amendment to medical record when a patient amendment request is received through the Privacy office. Validates the information at conclusion of the correction assuring that integrity of record is intact. Participates in testing of new functionality related to EMR documentation. Must have knowledge of medical record content and management and have a good working knowledge of the EHR either through experience or education. Must have a working knowledge of pc systems, including knowledge of MS Office Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Visio.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Analyst will work with chart corrections / data integrity issues across the Sanford footprint. Work mainly involves electronic documentation in Epic but may involve paper or other external electronic systems from time to time.
DEPARTMENT DETAILS
This full time position will normally work 8 hours but may take place after normal business hours.
QUALIFICATIONS
RHIA and/or RHIT required. New graduates eligible for certification must complete the certification examination at the earliest testing dates following employment, and all subsequent dates thereafter until the exam is satisfactorily completed. If the individual fails the exam two consecutive times, there will be an evaluation by the Department Director who will determine course of action based on performance. If employee is meeting or exceeding job performance expectations, a third testing opportunity may be granted. Long-term tenure in this position will require passing the RHIA or RHIT exam. Associate degree in Health Information/Medical Record Technology (RHIT or eligible) or Bachelor's degree in Health Information/Medical Records Administration (RHIA or eligible) required. Minimum of 3 years' experience in hospital HIM setting. A minimum of 3 or more years working with coding, chart analysis, or release of information or similar background preferred. Previous experience with Sanford One Chart required and previous experience working with the hybrid medical record extremely important.
