Job Details

The Building Engineer I is responsible for routine maintenance of all business unit facilities operations including building systems, equipment and grounds keeping. This position is accountable for inspecting, troubleshooting and resolving mechanical problems and building equipment and coordinates with outside vendors to deliver services necessary to maintain daily operations.

Essential Functions

  • Performs routine building maintenance and grounds keeping duties for internal and external building operations including, but not limited to: environmental control systems, generators, electrical, plumbing, security systems, parking lot inspection, grounds keeping/landscaping, and snow removal.
  • Operates and maintains facilities and building equipment, tools and machinery such as, but not limited to: irrigation, pallet jack, forklift, grounds equipment, tool cat/bobcat operation/broom and snow blower. Works on fabrication projects, as needed.
  • Uses best practices to troubleshoot and repair equipment and system issues. Performs preventative maintenance, repair and/or installation in connection with mechanical equipment and building systems to ensure they are operating within manufactures specifications. Inspects buildings, sites and equipment for needed repair/maintenance based on local, state and federal regulations. Chemical knowledge preferred.
  • Provides response when building systems fail or during emergency situations.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with vendors. Requests quotes for necessary work. Ensures work is completed on time and within specified requirements. Verifies receipt of invoice for payment.
  • Assists with audit walkthroughs regarding facilities operations.
  • Provides on-going and consistent support to all areas of the department, this includes but is not limited to: assisting with the preparation and planning of projects, taking project notes, collecting and sending out meeting minutes and providing assistance with cost benefit analysis for potential projects.
  • Participates in a rotating on-call schedule.

Required: Associate's

Field(s) of Study: Business, Facilities Management, Mechanical Engineering or related field

Experience Requirements

Required: Minimum of 1 Year

Preferred: Minimum of 3 Years

Experience Details: Minimum of 1 year facilities, building operations, engineering, equipment maintenance or related experience is required.

Equivalent combination of education, experience or training determined to be acceptable by Human Resources may be substituted, unless regulated by contract or program standards
