The Position:
The University of Wisconsin- River Falls invites applications for an Instructional Designer (Information Processing Consultant). The successful candidate will assist and advise faculty members, instructional and non-instructional academic staff members, and students, with instructional design of online, face-to-face, distance, and hybrid courses, and with the integration of teaching and learning technology. This person will also create and lead faculty development trainings, as well as support faculty members, instructional and non-instructional academic staff members, and students, with resolving technical issues with teaching and learning technologies. Review of applications will begin on upon receipt, with an anticipated appointment start date in January 2019.

As a member of the Teaching and Learning Technologies Department within the Division of Technology Services (DoTS), this position will assist and advise faculty members, instructional and non-instructional academic staff, and students, on instructional design, development, and delivery of fully online, hybrid, and traditional face-to-face courses. This person will work with faculty and instructional staff, especially faculty teaching with alternative delivery methods, to help develop successful and effective courses. Training instructors in the use of online course applications one-to-one, one-to-many, synchronously and asynchronously, is a key component of this role. Periodically providing support outside of standard hours is an expectation of this role.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

40% Instructional Design and Development
*Provide faculty members with development opportunities and consultation focused on the design and development of course materials using appropriate instructional strategies to effectively achieve desired student learning outcomes.
*Design and facilitate training and development opportunities for instructors in the use and application of technology in instruction through one-to-one and one-to-many sessions, synchronous workshops, online, and other means as deemed necessary by shared governance, administration, and DoTS management.
*Actively participate in educational technology communities within the UW System and at state and national levels.
*Capture and report data relating to courses taught using hybrid and distance education delivery methods.
*Identify and promote internal and external professional development opportunities available to faculty members and instructional academic staff regarding teaching and learning technologies.

25% Instructional and Learning Technologies
Provide system administration and direct technical assistance to instructors and students using instructional and learning technology tools. These tools include, but are not limited to, the following.
*Learning Management System/Digital Learning Environment (e.g., Desire2Learn and Canvas)
*Screen Recording Software (e.g., Camtasia Studio, Kaltura CaptureSpace)
*Media Hosting and Delivery Services (e.g., Kaltura MediaSpace)
*Collaborative Learning Spaces
*Interactive/Digital Ink Technologies (e.g., SMART technologies)
*Student Response Systems (e.g., iClickers)
*Plagiarism Detection System (e.g., Turn-it-in)
*Webpage content management system
*Evaluation systems (e.g., Scantron Class Climate)
*Consult with instructors regarding their teaching and learning technology needs.
*Author content for technical support documentation in a knowledge base system for instructors and other stakeholders.
*Explore, pilot, and promote innovations in technologies and techniques for all methods of instructional delivery.
*Research and implement emerging educational technologies with related user guides.

15% Daily Technical Support for Teaching and Learning Technologies
*Provide direct support to users resolving issues assigned to the Department within the issue tracking system.
*Provide information to users regarding the status of their requests and resolve any necessary issues.
*Coordinate with other Division of Technology Services departments and teams to resolve customer issues and requests.

10% Classroom and Learning Space Technology
*Contribute to the planning and design of teaching and learning technology for classrooms and learning spaces in campus affiliated spaces.

10% Other Duties as Assigned
*Work with the DoTS' Teaching & Learning Technologies Department to further the missions and goals of the University, Division, and Department.
*Work with committees and groups across the UW System as requested.
*Serve on ad-hoc DoTS project teams and University committees as required.
*Complete special projects as requested by leadership.
*Support University with M-SARA, HLC, and other external agency compliance projects regarding distance education and online education.
*Perform other related duties as directed.

Qualifications Required:
*Master's degree in learning technologies, instructional design, instructional technologies, education, or related field.
*Two or more years of direct experience providing customer support and designing and delivering training to faculty, or similar customers, in areas of instructional and learning technologies and instructional design and pedagogy.
*Experience with instructional software, learning management systems/digital learning environments, online course delivery methods, and other instructional and learning technologies.
*Demonstrated proficiency and experience in employing instructional and learning technologies in higher education settings.
*Experience with classroom technology needs analysis, implementation, training, and support for instructors and students.
*Experience using and instructing others in the use of a learning management system and providing support and system administration activities for online learning applications.
*Effective English written communication skills
*Knowledge and understanding of research and literature in the fields of: instructional and learning technologies, instructional design, faculty development.

Qualifications Preferred:
*Terminal degree in discipline.
*Teaching experience within higher education.
*Experience designing and delivering asynchronous training.
*Experience teaching in an online classroom.
*Experience in curriculum development.
*Ability to work with numerous software applications and multiple hardware platforms.
*Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interpret and explain information to a variety of persons and groups.
*Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently to achieve University goals.
*Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
*Knowledge and understanding of research and literature in the fields of: learning theories, student assessment, Universal design for learning.
