Compensation and Appointment

  • Salary $110,000+/year
  • Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, and tuition waiver.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans. 
  • Twelve (12) month, full-time, tenure-track appointment with University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), Indians into Medicine program.

 
Job Summary and Responsibilities
The Indians into Medicine program is seeking a highly motivated, organized individual to serve as an Assistant Director.  This position is at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, educator scholar, commensurate with experience and qualifications.  This is a tenure track position with the possibility of coming in tenured if applicant meets all required criteria for tenure and approval of the ND State Board of Higher Education.  This position will work closely with the INMED Director, INMED Staff, tribal advisory groups, and constituencies.  The INMED program is an integral part of UND SMHS and maintains close relationships with area tribes and with several national education organizations.  An all-American Indian board, the INMED Tribal Board, represents American Indian populations and assists in developing INMED philosophies and priorities.
The INMED Assistant Director will assist in fostering a welcoming, safe, and inclusive campus climate.  Currently this position will do 40% teaching, 25% research, 25% administration and 10% service.
Specific activities and responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Collaborate with Director in managing daily operations of the growing INMED program.
  • Mentor INMED students and participate in student recruitment for the Summer Institute, MCAT preparation, and other INMED programming.
  • Contribute to student mentoring and programmatic problem-solving.
  • Develop and execute new INMED initiatives, funding and programs.
  • Assist INMED Director with administrative functions

 
Minimum Requirements: 

  • Terminal degree in medicine (MD/DO), public health, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in population health research and community engagement.
  • Demonstrated experience working with American Indian/Alaska native medical students and/or pre-meds.
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level using distance technologies.
  • Established track record of external funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and conduct research in Indigenous Health.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Submit a current curriculum vita, letter of interest and contact information for three references.

Preferred Requirements:

  • MPH degree
  • Training and skillsets required to develop curricula and to teach in the planned PhD in Indigenous Health program.
  • Direct experience working with tribal, rural, or other indigenous populations.
  • American Indian/Alaska Native preference per PL94-437.
