Compensation and Appointment

  • $110,000+/year based on education and experience
  • Twelve month, full-time, probationary appoint with University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), Department of Population Health

Job Summary and Responsibilities
The mission of the University of North Dakota Master of Public Health Program is to support population health improvement in North Dakota, the Northern Plains and beyond through education, research, and service that create strategies and opportunities needed to promote health and well-being, prevent disease and injury, and advance health equity.
The Master of Public Health Program at UND prepares students to respond to the growing demand for public health professionals who can transform data into information for decision-making. The amount of health data and the number of datasets with an impact on public health is growing, and the skills to analyze data are valued by public and private health agencies, as well as healthcare provider and payer organizations. Specializations in Health Management & Policy, Population Health Research & Analytics, and in Indigenous Health provide a broad-based opportunity for MPH graduates to address compelling public health challenges in the 21st Century.  
The number of students who participate in the MPH Program increases each year, and the scope of the program's activities is expanding. The MPH Program Assistant Director is an educator scholar position housed within the UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences. The Assistant Director will assist in developing and teaching Indigenous health curriculum in the MPH Program as well as assisting in the development of and teaching courses in Health Management & Policy and Population Health Research & Analytics. The Assistant Director will work in close collaboration with the Director and other faculty and staff members to advance the MPH program. This position is at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, educator scholar, commensurate with experience and qualifications.  This is a tenure track position with the possibility of coming in tenured if applicant meets all required criteria for tenure and approval of the ND State Board of Higher Education.  Currently this position will do 40% teaching, 25% research, 25% administration and 10% service.
 
Minimum Requirements: 

  • Terminal degree in public health, epidemiology or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in population health research and community engagement.
  • Minimum of three years of administrative leadership experience in an academic setting.
  • Demonstrated track record of external funding.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and conduct research in one of three MPH specializations, including:
    • Health Management and Policy
    • Indigenous Health
    • Population Health Research & Analytics

Preferred Requirements:

  • MPH degree
  • Training and skillsets required to teach in more than one of the three MPH specializations: Health Policy, Indigenous Health & Population Health Research & Analytics.
  • Direct experience working with tribal, rural, or other underserved populations.
