JOB SUMMARY

Possesses the knowledge and ability to dispense prescription drugs to patients. Helps patients understand doctor's instructions and monitors patients' health and progress. Manages daily prescriptions. Advises doctors on the selection, dosages, interactions and side effects of medication. Provides information about drug side effects and interactions among different drugs. Dispenses drugs and makes sure people are taking the right medications. Monitors the health and progress of patients in response to drug therapy. Reviews drug utilization and answers questions about prescription drugs. Provides information and makes recommendations about drugs. Takes inventory and handles other basic pharmacy events, such as answering incoming physician calls and logging data.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Sanford Medical Center in Fargo is a Level 1 Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. The Pharmacy Department is seeking a full time pharmacist to provide clinical pharmacy services for critically ill patients in the mixed Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit as a member of a multidisciplinary team at Sanford. This will focus on working in a decentralized ICU role to cover the Trauma and Medical ICU. The candidate will cover the ICU in the decentralized role in the evening shift M-F, with central pharmacy coverage on the weekend evening in the 7 on/7 off role (consistent will our other 7 on 7 off specialties). A successful candidate for this role will have experience and/or advanced training in the practice of Critical Care, and the completion of a residency or specialized experience (eg. PGY-2) is preferred. Interest in teaching is a plus and will be available for the candidate, primarily via a preceptor role for our PGY1 and APPE pharmacy trainees. In addition to critical care services, pharmacy services at Sanford Medical Center include involvement in acute care surgery, neurology, cardiology, pediatrics, oncology, intensive care, general medicine, dialysis, transplant, antimicrobial stewardship, and medication reconciliation. Our decentralized pharmacist positions include clinical activities such as pharmacokinetics, TPN ordering and monitoring, anticoagulation dosing, renal dosing, IV to PO adjustments, and antimicrobial stewardship. All pharmacist staff are trained in the central pharmacy and IV room. The successful candidate will have the option of 10 hour shifts (70 hours per pay period) or 11 hour shifts (77 hours per pay period).

QUALIFICATIONS

License must be in good standing by the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state licensure privileges as required by position. In a retail/community pharmacy setting: Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy. Must have a thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions; knowledge of state and local regulations.In a medical center or institutional setting: Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy. Must have a thorough knowledge of drugs and their actions; knowledge of state and local regulations. Hospital experience or residency preferred.
