Position Overview

The Inventory Planner will be involved with inventory planning and forecasting. You will manage the supply chain production plans for specific product categories to ensure sufficient inventory levels for customer orders. A focus of the position is to ensure optimal utilization of Digi-Key product assets by driving high in-stock availability of moving product and efficient identification and disposition of non-moving inventory. The Inventory Planner will partner with suppliers, Supplier Development, Sales, Operations, Supply Chain and Inventory Purchasing Managers to manage: *In Stocks and Fill Rate *PO On time and Fill Rate *Inventory, turns, DOS * Profitability *Sludge & SMI This position is responsible for following the Replenishment and Planning P&Ps that support positive growth in sales/ margin, and drive cost reductions. This includes identifying and communicating opportunities for improvement on your desk to your manager and working with your peers and business partners to enable a strong cross functional team. This position is responsible for following the overall strategy for assigned categories. This position will work to develop a solid knowledge of replenishment practices, alignment with sales strategies and analytical skill sets to ensure that the right product is in stock. This position is responsible for implementing the business strategies and processes for the assigned replenishment area.

Responsibilities
Must be able to...
  • Cut & Communicate POs for inventory
  • Assist Procurement Associates with questions regarding maintaining vendor contact, verifying pricing, and maintaining stock levels
  • Track shipments and monitor changes in customer demand to ensure consistent on-time delivery
  • Understand supplier production plans
  • Communicate and collaborate with supply chain teams, product managers, and sales representatives
  • Own the end-to-end management of demand planning optimization
  • Build and maintain relationships with suppliers
  • Respond timely and with a sense of accountability to questions regarding product level availability
  • Identify root cause of inventory issues and implement strategies at the part level to deliver and exceed inventory goals while driving sales
  • Review & understand supplier contracts; may need to recommend/negotiate new terms with the supplier or educate partners on meaning|impact of unfavorable terms
  • Track and maximize in-stock percentages on key product areas
  • Negotiate MOQ reductions, special purchase costs/discounts
  • Process scheduled orders and initiate the pull in/push out of product to make sure we are meeting inventory requirements and measurements
  • Oversee and make recommendations for stock rotation/scrap process, making sure we are maximizing the allotted allowance
  • Prepare and analyze inventory overstock/under buy reports and make forecast adjustments and parameter recommendations as necessary per current market trends
  • Perform inventory turn analysis across suppliers and by product movement category to identify opportunities to enhance our inventory position
  • Prepare and analyze data for supplier visits while interfacing with supplier asset resources
  • Identify SMI and sludge to create disposition strategy, along with analysis on low performing inventory
  • Work with purchasing and sales to confirm customer requirements for high value, low customer usage products prior to the purchase order being placed with supplier
  • Bi-annually review consigned inventory to move to core
  • Understand sales objectives and apply related principles

  • Taking on additional responsibilities from Sr. Planner
  • Participates on cross-functional working teams or tasks forces
  • Test system updates and applications
  • May participate in the creation of training & documentation of processes as well as the facilitation of training

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum/Essential Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Complete required APICS training and continue relevant education
  • 0 to 3 years of experience working in key areas such as Sales, Purchasing, Pricing, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of simple querying tools
  • Demonstrate ability to leverage Demand Tools for planning & forecasting
  • Understanding of financial concepts, terms, and technical capabilities
  • Experience using database and computer technology
  • Generally, spend the workday sitting at a workstation and operating computer devices, such as, but not limited to keyboard, mouse and screen
  • Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body
  • Must be able to perform the following behavioral competencies; analytical capacity, attention to detail, communication, customer/client focus, ethical conduct, initiative, manages execution, personal effectivness/credibility, positive attitude, professionalism, problem solving/analysis, project management, thoroughness, and time management
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two-Year Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Information Systems Management, or Supply Chain Management or Business Administration or similar area of study or equivalent, relevant work experience
  • Knowledge of Digi-Key brand and its principles
  • Strong understanding of the various functions of Digi-Key, how they work together as well as the industry Digi-Key operates in
