Job Summary:

The Lead SR Instructor Pilot's primary responsibilities include providing supervision of SR flight and ground instruction while guiding and mentoring new and current Factory Flight Instructors. As the primary SR internal training supervisor, the Lead SR Instructor Pilot conducts all initial and recurrent training operations for both Factory Flight Instructors, internal and external company pilots, and all SR recurrent training. The Lead SR Instructor Pilot shall serve as the designated SR Check Pilot as well as the hiring and training manager for SR based pilot and instructor roles and positions.

Job Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
    • Develop, coach and mentor a team of factory flight instructor and club instructors to drive the highest levels of training quality and standardization and a world-class training experience.
    • Develop, coach and mentor a team of corporate pilots to drive the highest levels of mission quality and standardization and a world-class flight experience.
    • Enhance flight safety by providing excellent, high quality, and standardized flight and ground instruction in compliance with CFR 14 Part 61 and 91.
    • Escalate client and internal pilot issues to the Manager of SR Flight Operations and or the Director of Flight Operations.
    • Effectively manage staff and schedule conflicts
    • Assist the Manger of SR Flight Operations in the development of flight and or training procedures and drive improvements to existing courseware, curriculum and flight procedures.
    • Make final assessments and determine qualification level of employee pilots and flight instructors
    • Perform aircraft acceptance/delivery/ferry flights as available.
    • Facilitate maintenance and delivery/acceptance squawks on newly delivered aircraft and corporate aircraft.
    • Conduct all internal SR instructor and company pilot standardization flights to ensure highest standard of training and operation.
    • Provide flight and ground instruction per standards defined in Cirrus policy and procedure documents (FOM, LMS, and SR Course syllabus)
    • Operate Cirrus aircraft in accordance with applicable regulations and Cirrus company policies.
    • Make timely and accurate decisions regarding safety of flight.
    • Manage Instructors expense reporting and OOP reimbursements monthly.
    • Manage travel expenses in accordance with Cirrus company policies.
    • Provide excellent and professional customer service.
    • Act as pilot in command of Cirrus SR series aircraft while performing corporate flight missions, ferry flights, internal training flights, and demonstration flights.
    • Process and maintain a deep level of aircraft knowledge and be a model aviator, flight instructor, and Cirrus representative.
    • Perform normal pre-flight and post flight inspections as well as clean, fuel, add oil and de-ice fluid, update avionics subscriptions, etc.
    • Maintain Situational awareness as to the delivery status and progress of individual customer aircraft.


  • Education and/or Experience:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Recent flight training experience in the military, part 142/141 or standardized 61 flight school is required.
  • Instructor/mentor role in CFR 14 Part 61/141/121/142 environment preferred
  • Recent teaching experience in piston aircraft required
  • Teaching experience in Cirrus piston aircraft preferred
  • Recent teaching experience in advanced General Aviation Glass Cockpit preferred
  • 1500 hours of total flight time preferred
  • 1000 hours acting as instructor preferred
  • 250 hours Pilot in Command (PIC) piston time preferred
  • 500 hours CSIP preferred
  • Piston experience in IFR, congested airspace, mountain flying, extensive IMC, and night experience required
  • Advanced FTD/Full Flight Simulator experience preferred
  • Demonstrated Proficiencies/Skills/Abilities:
  • Prior Position as a supervisor of pilots or instructors preferred
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills required
