Position Overview

The Sr. Manager, Inventory Control is responsible for the vision, strategy, planning, coordinating, and senior leadership of all activities related to the delivery of new and existing Inventory Control products & services for Digi-Key Electronics. The position's focus is on maintaining, coaching and developing staff, determining organization objectives, monitoring the progress of projects and initiatives, and taking appropriate action when needed.

  • Perform all Manager tasks|responsibilities at 'mastery' level. The work itself may not change, but level of oversight decreases
  • Manage and provides leadership to Managers and Supervisors|Sr. Supervisors
  • Alternatively, may manage a staff of professional associates that work on complicated issues integrating activities and/or processes in the department or across other areas of the Product Distribution Center and possibly other departments within Digi-Key
  • Manage multiple complex projects, business production and/or organizational priorities; manages related teams, sets organizational priorities and allocates resources
  • Achieve set goals, objectives & KPIs cross-functionally and influence that behavior across the organization
  • Bring a strategic, long-term and informed perspective on issues and/ or ideas to move the business forward
  • Able to gain consensus and influence action at all levels of the organization in regard to Inventory Control.
  • Analyze and direct the efficient part placement of all Pick, Broken and Pallet storage areas amongst various warehouse
  • Continually evaluate and improve processes to allow Digi-Key to reduce errors and increase productivity within each specific task.
  • Work closely with the Digi-Key Information Technology group to automate manual functions and increase order fulfillment efficiencies across the operation.
  • Effectively control and track in-house inventory to optimize product placement and handling.Create Inventory Management System that decreases cycle time and increases throughput to cut down fulfillment time constraints for customers
  • Analyze inventory control reports in order to direct perpetual inventory counts.
  • Ensure ISO (quality) and OSHA (safety) compliance. Create metrics to ensure that long term performance can be measured and improved.Serve on safety councils and committees
  • Work with HR to create a training infrastructure to maximize employee learning and success while simultaneously reducing training costs and improving retention
  • Partner with HR in handling employee relations issues in a consistent manner and suggest policy modifications to maximize employee performance
  • Work with the Quality/Continual Improvement department to establish a proven and effective methodology for managing PDC continuous improvement projects. Design systems and metrics to improve PDC quality and efficiency on an ongoing basis
  • Be part of the team that will conduct strategic/operational planning for new distribution center building(s)
  • Build upon the current team-based sense of ownership within PDC managers, supervisors and their employees. Create a sustainable recognition program that compliments Digi-Key's Corporation's corporate recognition guidelines.
  • Oversee the PDC Technician's roles and responsibilities to ensure the highest level of service to the customers they serve as well as the equipment they maintain.
  • Work with Receiving to improve process flow to ensure that all product is received the same day it arrives at our dock.
  • Work to streamline the end to end PO process to ensure visibility, accuracy and timeliness of all inbound orders, working to build scanner use, ASN's and automated processing of the 3-Way match required to process payments to our Suppliers
  • Maintaining inventory measuring accuracy for all facilities
  • Lead|Participate on cross functional committees and task forces
  • Other projects and management assignments as required

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Minimum/Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Operations, Business Administration or similar area of study or equivalent, relevant work experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive warehouse/distribution leadership and responsibilities
  • Past progressive and successful leadership record within complex organizations required
  • Proficient knowledge using excel
  • Proficient knowledge using microstrategy

  • Able to twist or bend and occasionally climb stairs
  • Able to reach with hands and arms above shoulder level
  • Spend the majority of working hours walking/standing on concrete
  • Regularly lift up to 35 lbs. and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to shoulder height
  • Generally, spend the workday performing repetitive motions that involve or affect the hands, head, and other parts of your body
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Multiple site distribution leadership experience
  • Exposure to the electronics distribution industry
