Requirements:
The ideal candidate must have eight years’ experience in a technical or safety-related program for electric utility systems and obtained a recognized professional safety designation such as NRECA’s Loss Control Professional (preferred) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) or Certified Safety Professional (CSP). Experience with OSHA, NFPA, EPA, D.O.T., MPCA or other labor regulatory agencies is desirable. Excellent communication skills are necessary including phone, in-person, written, as well as for internal training and external safety education presentations. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs. Must be available for emergency situations which may occur outside normal working hours.  Some travel is required. Must possess and maintain a valid MN driver’s license.

Duties:
Responsible for the formulation of safety-related policies and programs that will help shape the safety culture for the entire company. This person influences management to drive safety performance, provides practical and technical expertise at all levels and leads the company’s overall safety strategy. Other major areas include: workers’ compensation, labor regulations, building security, liability losses and exposures, compliance and technical skills training. Performs accident/loss investigations, field inspections and makes recommendations to address safety issues and concerns. Prepares and updates Safety Rules handbook, safety policies and provides records and documentation for federal, state and local compliance. This position reports directly to the President/CEO.
