The primary function of this position is to be involved in product development, ideation and substantiation for new products and is a key member of the product launch team embedded within R&D. Will work with Regulatory to compile and maintain product and claim substantiation files and works directly with Marketing partners for creation of tools for marketing/sales and documentation related to the Story, Reasons to Believe, Competitive Advantage and Differentiation.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Be a productive member of the product development team working on innovation, product concepts and product substantiation.
  • Partners with Marketing and Merchandising to develop innovative concepts and ideas to continuously fill the new product pipeline.
  • Source ingredients/technologies for new products and solutions for innovation opportunities
  • Screens ideas from vendors and researchers to consider for the Swanson Health Products Pipeline of new products.
  • Working closely with the Director of S&I, CIO, and CMO/Marketing Team to develop and manage a continual pipeline of new innovation opportunities.
  • Works closely with the Department leaders on the development of the scientific "story" for new and existing products.
  • Develops the initial marketing story, reasons to believe, differentiation points and competitive edge for all new innovations.
  • Works closely with partners in both Marketing and Merchandising on development of all new innovations.
  • Contributes to development of the P&L For each new innovation and the Marketing and Merchandising plans.
  • Helps evaluate new ingredient clinical science presented by 3rd party Ingredient suppliers.
  • Enhances department and organization by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests.
  • Identifies and suggests areas for personal growth within the organization.
  • Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with peers, management, and support resources, with a constant commitment to teamwork and exemplary customer service.
  • Conducts self in the presence of customers and community so as to present a professional image of SHP.


Competencies Required:
  • Keeps all functional areas aware of potential new product ideas
  • Creates "Scientific Backgrounders" for new products.
  • Create scientific copy used for a variety of purposes in conjunction with and as needed by the marketing team.
  • Writes educational video scripts in conjunction with and as needed by the marketing team.
  • Reviews promotional materials for scientific accuracy.
  • Helps drive the innovation process.
  • Collaborate with key company stakeholders to identify scientific information to meet internal, domestic and international customer needs.
  • Identifies, contributes to and participates in the upkeep of detailed scientific information on SHP websites ensuring valid and accurate information is presented.
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with internal and external customers to provide comprehensive scientific support.
  • Helps with global regulatory queries in a time bound manner with high quality information and documentation.
  • Identifies continual improvement of R&D processes.
  • Helps with public speaking events and presentations of products and science.
  • Travel when required; up to and including international assignments.


Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience Required: PhD and/or Master's Degree in one of the sciences or equivalent experience and/or marketing development or Brand Manager experience. Extensive nutritional and clinical science knowledge, Coaching, Supervision, Management Proficiency, Process Improvement, Tracking Budget Expenses, Self-Development, Planning, Performance Management Or; an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential responsibilities and duties of the job as listed above.
