JOB SUMMARY

Provides individuals with special healthcare needs with a positive experience in the water, introduces and teaches fundamental aquatic skills, promotes water safety and provides opportunities for physical activity and social interaction. Possesses teaching ability for a variety of water classes for various age levels within the Adaptive Aquatics program. Demonstrates strength working with growth and development needs of unique client population, understanding the challenges associated. Assists the lead instructor when and where appropriate, listening to direction promptly to insure a high quality experience for all of the individuals involved.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrates an ability to use mindfulness for defined situations. Demonstrates the ability to maintain focus for specific activities. Develop or implement strategies to meet the needs of students with a variety of disabilities. Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students. Explains the importance of accuracy in own function or unit. Explores own motivation and initiative and how it relates to the workplace. Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment or materials to prevent injuries and damage. Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development. Provides a quality of service that customers describe as excellent. Tolerates a limited amount of risk and uncertainty. Uses language appropriate to audience. Knows how to access and use available learning and development resources.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Life Supoprt (BLS) certification. Lifeguard certification preferred but not required. Must be 16 years of age. Background in physical education preferred.
