Position Description:
The Department of Microbiological Sciences at North Dakota State University seeks an enthusiastic, collaborative tenure-track Assistant Professor (9-month) with expertise in the microbial ecology of agricultural systems to contribute to the department's teaching, research, and outreach mission. Candidates who employ their research to understand complex microbial systems impacting production agriculture are encouraged to apply. Microbiological Sciences has a commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff and strongly encourages candidates who will enrich NDSU's academic and culturally inclusive environment to consider this position.

NDSU is a student focused, land grant, research institution. As such, successful candidates will be expected to teach and advise students at the undergraduate and graduate level as well as develop and maintain an extramurally funded, independent research program. Potential undergraduate courses include Environmental Microbiology, Microbial Ecology, or Molecular Ecology with graduate level teaching in areas of expertise. In addition to undergraduate, Master's, and doctoral degree programs in Microbiology, the Department partners with interdisciplinary graduate programs in Genomics, Environmental and Conservation Sciences, and Cellular and Molecular Biology for access to well-qualified students and collaborators.

NDSU researchers find solutions and discover opportunities that enhance the quality of life; sustain food, feed, fiber, and fuel production; and protect the land and resources of North Dakota. The department offers a competitive salary and benefits package. In addition to well-equipped departmental laboratory space, core biology and synthesis research facilities, and a high-powered computing cluster, the successful candidate will have access to BSL3 research greenhouses, agricultural plots, the NDSU Beef Cattle Research Complex, the Advanced Imaging & Microscopy Laboratory, and the NDSU Electron Microscopy Center, as well as a collaborative network of scientists, extension personnel, commodity groups, and a supportive agricultural community.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Professional and effective oral and written communication skills
• Ability to interact and collaborate effectively with a diversity of colleagues and students

Preferred Qualifications:
• Evidence of research accomplishments in microbial ecology as it relates to microbiomes impacting production agriculture
• Research experience in the biological, environmental, and functional diversity of microbiomes; interactions of microbes and plants; or the role of microbes in ecosystem health
• Experience in the use of computational approaches and bioinformatics to understand microbiome responses to environmental changes
• Experience in securing extramural funding
• Evidence of the ability to communicate scientific knowledge to a range of stakeholders
• Experience teaching college-level lecture and laboratory courses
