JOB SUMMARY

Cares for patients with wound, ostomy, and/or continence needs. Knowledgeable and skillful in consulting, following and/or developing care protocols for pediatrics and adults requiring their services. Will serve as a clinical resource and consultant to patient care staff in developing and implementing patient care plans. Demonstrates excellent clinical and interpersonal skills. The scope of practice encompasses the use of the nursing process in the areas of: (assessment, diagnosis, outcomes/planning, implementation and evaluation) to provide individualized nursing care to patients. Responsible for the coordination of care, patient assessment, patient education, triage, and various other nursing interventions. Collaborates with other inter-professional colleagues, including physicians, to plan, implement and evaluate care. Demonstrates competency and practices within the full scope of nursing expertise/knowledge and utilizes appropriate age and population specific standards as designated in their assigned clinical setting. Functions within the scopes and standards of nursing practice as outlined in the Nurse Practice Act and Administrative Rules in state of practice and licensure. The Sanford Professional Nursing Practice recognizes the Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements as published by the American Nurses Association as the foundation of nursing care delivery and professional conduct.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Coordination and management of care for patients, including with complex needs. Effectively delegates and supervises based on ones state practice act and an understanding of the concepts of responsibility, authority, and accountability. Identifies and treats patients who have difficult or complicated conditions. Instructs patients and families in wound cleaning, infection control and pain management. Manages nursing care activities for patients with complex wound and ostomy needs. Performing age related patient assessments and nursing interventions. Responsible for promoting a safe environment for patients, families, staff, residents, and visitors and working collaboratively with the multi-disciplinary health care team to provide the best outcomes for patients.

DEPARTMENT DETAILS

This position will be specific to Pediatric patients. This role will assist with the structure and growth of the WOCN within the Children's Hospital including Parent Education, Staff Education, providing input and consultation with provider group, member of the Pediatric multidisciplinary team. Ad Hoc member of the Pediatric Trauma Advocacy Program. Attendance at the Transitional Care rounds in Pediatrics and Pediatric Intensive Care. Collaboration with Pediatric Surgery MD's as well as the Pediatric Surgery NP.

QUALIFICATIONS

Currently holds an unencumbered RN license with the State Board of Nursing where the practice of nursing is occurring and/or possess multistate licensure if in a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state. Obtains and subsequently maintains required department specific competencies and certifications. Completion of Wound, Ostomy, and/or Continence Nursing Education Program and continued board certified within first 24 months of employment into role.Certification as a Wound and Ostomy Nurse through the Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nursing Certification Board (CWON) and/or (CWOCN). Bachelors degree in nursing required. Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program preferred, including, but not limited to, Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA).
