- Protects life and property by performing assigned law enforcement and investigative activities;
- Maintains order; enforces City ordinances and state and federal law in a uniform manner and according to established department policies and effects arrests when circumstances dictate;
- Respond to citizen concerns and complaints;
- Responsible for traffic enforcement, control, and direction. This includes motorized, non-motorized and pedestrian traffic;
- Administers breath intoxilizer to persons suspected of exceeding the blood alcohol limit;
- Patrols and observes the community in order to detect and deter criminal activity and provide a sense of security and well-being to the community;
- Prepares clear and accurate reports in accordance with department polices;
- Prepares and executes warrants, makes recommendations for criminal complaints and presents testimony as required in court.
- Investigates criminal violations and offenses as appropriate;
- Responds to medical emergencies and provides basic first aid;
- Provides appropriate information to public;
- Assists in making public presentations at schools. May perform specialized work in record keeping, juvenile, child abuse and neglect, GREAT, D.A.R.E., bike safety program, investigation, and/or narcotics when directed by supervisor.
- Acts as a resource person within the department, providing information for long and short term departmental goals and objectives, as well as police-related tactical concerns;
- Performs other assigned and self initiated law enforcement and service tasks, all under the general supervision of the police sergeant or assigned supervisor;
- All other duties as assigned.
