JOB SUMMARY

Manager, Assistant Scientist plans, coordinates, implements and conducts independent scientific research. Research would include but is not limited to complex laboratory testing, experiments and analysis following established protocols. Provides leadership and supervision in an assigned research area. Analyzes and evaluates findings. Organizes and conceptualizes ideas leading to proposals. Writes technical summaries and publications. Prepares and makes formal presentations of research results. Considered the principal investigator on grants. An established as co-author or senior author of proposals, journal articles and technical reports. High level of knowledge in scientific research processes, procedures, and objectives. Possess ability to implement experiments in the subject discipline with the ability to trouble shoot issues. Good knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline required. Possesses ability to run complex pieces of equipment requiring advanced specialized training. Possess knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analysis. Significant experience in analyzing and evaluating data. General level of knowledge of project management, decision-making, and analytical skills. Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively with a research group or team. Sanford Research is a multi-site institution and occasional local travel between sites may be required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

Establishes critical processes and their controls. Documents plans with clear objectives, action steps, accountabilities, resource requirements and timelines. Uses varying problem-solving approaches and techniques as appropriate. Office files into a single, complex document. Demonstrates an ability to adapt to continuous change in work demands. Incorporates data from multiple;Delivers written and oral communication, responds to questions and concerns, and produce specific outcomes and impact. Responds to shifting priorities while maintaining progress of regularly scheduled work. Approaches a complex problem by breaking it down into its component parts. Demonstrates experience engendering collaborative processes that lead to problem solving and the achievement of business goals. Processes large quantities of detailed information with high levels of accuracy. Makes sound recommendations when faced with complex and contradictory alternatives. Promotes an organizational culture that balances individual initiative and team collaboration and sharing of successes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Requires a doctorate degree in a clinical, health, or life science field.
Minimum of three years post-doctoral experience in related subject field of study. Equivalent to Assistant Professor. Competitive publication record for rank and discipline.
