Job Details

Position Description:
The Resource Forester is responsible for assisting the State Forest Manager in conducting forest resource management and recreational activities on State Forest lands. The forester will assess forest stand conditions, monitor noxious weeds, and assess forest threats (insects, disease, fire). The forester will also coordinate with cooperating agency personnel to implement best management practices and install and highlight demonstration areas on private and NDFS land and assist with trail and campground maintenance. The position includes both office and field duties.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in forestry or related natural resource field and one (1) year of directly related natural resource management experience

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Computer experience (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Aptitude for GIS , GPS and related technology
  • Aptitude to operate equipment such as skid steer, brush mowers and utility vehicles
  • Highly motivated, dedicated, outgoing, confident and ethical
  • Adaptable to change
  • Positive attitude
  • Ability and desire to work as part of a team and with staff and partners
  • Willing to travel alone, stay overnight and work in semi-remote areas
  • Excellent organization, prioritization and time management skills
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work safely

Physical Demands:
Taste or smell; lift and carry up to 50 pounds - occasionally.
Stand; walk; sit; use hands dexterously; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop/kneel/crouch or crawl; lift and carry up to 25 pounds - frequently.
See; talk or hear; lift and carry up to 10 pounds - continuously
