MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting and two years full-time professional accounting experience.
  • Payroll experience working with union contracts preferred.
  • Certified Management Accountant preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of accounting principles, procedures and practices
  • Ability to apply accounting principles, procedures and practices to work assignments.
  • Ability to audit and analyze data to ensure the accuracy of financial statements
  • Ability to implement adequate internal controls using segregation of duties to safeguard District assets
  • Knowledge of computer software programs and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System
  • Knowledge of the accounting cycle pertaining to budgeting, accounting, reporting and auditing
  • Ability to complete responsibilities ethically and maintain confidentiality with sensitive information
  • Ability to interpret and explain contracts, policies and procedures
  • Ability to maintain compliance with various policies and regulations
  • Possess clear and effective written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively prioritize multiple tasks while meeting deadlines
  • Ability to be flexible in adapting to changes in priorities, assignments, and other interruptions that may impact deadlines
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions and to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment with co-workers, internal customers and external customers
     

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Develops, maintains, analyzes, and interprets accounting information and fiscal data to provide a wide range of clearly defined accounting services, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting to be in compliance with GAAP
  • In charge of the accounts receivable process including billing, cash receipts, collections and all applicable reporting
  • Accountable for the accounts payable process and required reporting including invoice processing and vendor payments
  • Responsible for processing salary and hourly payroll including electronic employee master files, deduction records, absence plan records and all required reporting
  • Develops and prepares budgets for decision making and analysis
  • Oversees District funds to maximize earnings
  • Ensures accuracy of capital assets and related financing to comply with debt requirements
  • Ensures compliance with statutory requirements and develops procedures relating to financial matters, District policies and regulations
  • Supports District inventory personnel through timely completion of cycle counts, vending issues and reconciliations
  • Provides coverage in the Finance department to support daily activities as needed
  • Maintains effective working relationships with fellow employees, supervisors and the general public
  • Maintains a constant awareness of safe work practices
  • Monitors compliance with the District Safety Program to complete work without accidents or injuries
  • Attends in-service training as required by supervisor
  • Performs related duties as assigned
