Job Summary

The Director of Talent Development is responsible for the strategic direction and management of the Talent Development functions for the organization and provides leadership, support, and oversight to appropriate individuals. This position ensures the business unit is administering the company's Talent Development needs with the best possible service while maintaining contract expectations and while working within budget constraints and optimizing staffing levels.

Essential Functions

Key Duties/Responsibilities/Accountabilities
  • Creates and maintains a Training Center of Excellence for the company's formal training program to ensure consistency and a high-quality experience including a Trainer Certification Program and a Content Development Certification Program.
  • Partners with key stakeholders to understand business priorities and consult on best-in-class, scalable, and modern training delivery solutions.
  • Works with executive leadership to establish strategic planning goals.
  • Develops a framework for content development process: Needs, Plan, Develop, Communicate, Delivery, Assess.
  • Develops strategies for efficient, effective, and sustainable processes for future/ongoing training needs assessment and gap analysis.
  • Implements and manages LMS365 across the organization by prioritized departments in order to ensure successful launch.
  • Designs and implements distance learning strategies, including virtual classroom learning and self-paced web-based manager and leader for manager and leader development topics.
  • Integrates and works closely with various HR areas regarding leader development programs to ensure alignment and consistency.
  • Partners with subject matter experts (SME) in each department to develop consistent process for developing and updating content for new and existing staff.
  • Develops and utilizes learning solutions which may include using multiple forms including classroom, e-Learning, web meeting, and blended instruction. Continuously improves existing programming through redesign efforts and integration of new content and/or technology.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and periodically reports on training programs' effectiveness, success, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Becomes expert on content development tools and applications such as, but not limited to, Camtasia, Adobe, Captivate, LMS365, Survey Gizzmo, etc.
  • Maintains a keen understanding of training trends, development, and best practices and stays current on new industry modalities, instructional designs, and software tools.
  • Provides recommendations around innovative concepts and social learning techniques to train individuals at all levels.
  • Manages budgets and works to meet requirements with available funding.
  • Provides direct reports/team with clear goals and expectations.
  • Coaches and develops staff by encouraging growth and ensuring staff are meeting performance expectations.
  • Initiates disciplinary action when performance does not meet expectations.
  • Provides divisional and corporate strategic planning input on departmental budgets to ensure adequate funds are available to support performance expectations and requirements.
  • Initiates process improvements and technology enhancements.
  • Leads by example by promoting team work, recognition, and leadership while demonstrating company values.
  • Assists in organizational and corporate growth opportunities.
  • Responds to and implements changes in a flexible, positive manner.
  • Acts as the area subject-matter-expert to support responsiveness to the organization's customers.
  • Translates the organization's business strategies into actionable plans for own function by leveraging market and functional knowledge. Aligns the mission and objectives of one's unit with those of the larger organization.
  • Cultivates and maintains partnerships across functions to help teams successfully navigate competing priorities and create win-win solutions for all parties. Is genuine, empathetic, and effective at building rapport and relationships.

Requirements

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Communication, or Business-related field OR Associate's degree plus 4 years' experience managing staff
  • 5 years in training industry managing a training program of which 3 were spent managing a team of individuals
  • Strong instructional design skills and a thorough understanding of adult learning principles and traditional and modern training methods (mentoring, coaching, on-the-job or in-class training, e-learning, workshops, hands-on labs, etc.)
  • Strategic thinking and a strong desire to apply innovation to the design of learning programs
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others as well as working/influencing effectively at all levels within the organization
  • Advanced writing, presenting, and facilitation skills
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across all levels of the organization
  • Proven track record in designing and executing successful training program
  • Proven experience managing multiple competing priorities within an aggressive timeline
  • Knowledge of management theories and practices


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Communication, or related field with at least 24 credit hours in Accounting
  • 10 years' experience managing staff preferably in Training & Development
  • Extensive knowledge of organizational development
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to motivate and mange a large group of people
  • Ability to direct and maintain a productive and conducive working environment
  • Ability to coordinate activities among co-workers
  • Ability to develop problem solving skills within staff and oneself
  • Strong analytical skills
