Put that CDL to work and still be back at home every night. Starting $18.94/hr. plus including vacation, sick, funeral leave, and holiday pay. JOB OBJECTIVES:
Perform a wide range of duties related to highway maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of those specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.
Perform snow removal and ice control by operating heavy duty equipment (i.e. single and/or tandem axel trucks and/or motor graders) primarily on County State Aid Highways, County Roads, and Municipal State Aid Highways, as assigned.
*Operate heavy duty & specialized equipment requiring a Commercial Motor Vehicle License.
*Examples of activities: highway snow removal and ice (salt/sanding), material hauling (gravel), loading and transporting equipment from site to site with truck and trailer, etc.
*Perform highway maintenance duties, including manual tasks.
*Examples: Crack sealing, bituminous paving and patching, ditch mowing, tree and brush cutting, culvert cleaning, replacement & repair; garbage collection for adopt a highway, repairing frost boils, etc.
*Perform routine motor vehicle and mechanical equipment service.
*Examples: changing oil, greasing equipment, changing filters.
*Follows oral and written instructions.
*Perform work under varying conditions, indoors, outdoors, including lifting to 80 lbs.
*Complies with all OSHA rules and county policies in order to maintain a safe work environment.
*Actively participates in workplace and job site safety inspections and training. Makes assigned safety hazard corrections, as directed by supervisor.
*Correctly uses proper safety measures and personal protective equipment.
*Subject to drug testing policy.
*Reliable, predictable attendance and punctuality. See Hours section.
*Other duties, as assigned or apparent.

NON-ESSENTIAL
*Perform building custodial and grounds maintenance using approved methods, materials, and equipment.
*Perform occasional assistance to other county staff (survey, engineering, facilities maintenance, etc.).

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AT HIRE:

Education
*High School Diploma or GED; (ability to read, write, do simple arithmetic)

Experience
*Minimum of 6 months full time paid experience operating heavy equipment and/or equipment requiring a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Licenses and Other Requirements:
*Must have Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B. Must obtain CDL - Class A within 6 months of hire date.
*Must pass a pre-employment drug test.

REQUIRED MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & QUALITIES AT HIRE:
*Knowledge of applicable traffic laws and regulations.
*Willingness to use proper safety measures.

PREFERRED / DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
*Previous experience (does not need to be paid experience) operating heavy duty single or tandem axel trucks for snow removal and ice control on highways & roads.
*Previous experience (does not need to be paid experience):
*operating a wheeled backhoe.
*operating a motor grader.
*operating a front end loader.
*operating a skid steer loader.
*operating a tractor larger than 50 horse power.
*performing bituminous paving and patching.
*performing culvert replacement and repair.

PREFERRED / DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, & QUALITIES:
*Working knowledge of medium and heavy duty equipment operation and routine service.
*Working knowledge of routine motor vehicle service and practices.
*Working knowledge of hazard potential of the various materials used in highway maintenance work.

HOURS
Typically works Monday to Friday, 40 hours a week, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Will be subject to occasionally working early or extended shifts, Holidays, and weekends, based on the need to keep highways safe and passable in a variety of seasons and varying weather related conditions.

Front end loader, motor grader, heavy duty truck (Single and Tandem Axel Dump Truck), trucks with trailers, wheeled backhoe, jetter, sweeper, roller, lift truck, etc.

Other equipment
Rotary mowing equipment, light truck (passenger truck), skid steer loader, tractor, forklift, etc.

Other Tools
Concrete saw, chainsaw, brush saw, leaf blower, string trimmer, pneumatic and electric power tools, snow removal equipment, router, melter, shovel, rake, & related hand tools, power washer, etc.
