Minimum Hiring Salary/Position Classification:  $48,000+ per year, Exempt, Full-Time, Benefitted
Benefits: Includes single or family health care coverage (premiums paid for by the university), basic life insurance, EAP, retirement plan, tuition waiver, annual and sick leave.  Optional benefits available: supplemental life, dental, vision, flexible spending account, supplemental retirement plans.
Standard Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm

The Digital Media Instructional Designer develops state-of the-art instructional multimedia assets for learning environments.  Instructional multimedia includes the development, production, and/or conversion of multimedia content, such as presentation and interactive media - video, motion graphics, animations, and other instructional media elements - creating visual communication and digital learning objects. This position will work collaboratively with the Instructional Design team to meet the multimedia needs within UND courses.  Duties include: 

  • Consult with Academic Departments and faculty members in high demand areas regarding possible ways to design and create engaging and interactive digital media content to support quality teaching and learning
  • Translate instructor concepts and contextual materials into a wide range of online graphics, videos, or other illustrative and interactive learning objects
  • Work closely with UND Online instructional designer(s) to provide pedagogical and technical support for digital media content in courses
  • Include active learning, High Impact Practices and other evidence-based strategies that address diverse learning styles, abilities, and backgrounds
  • Manage the development of digital media for high demand online, on-ground, and blended/hybrid courses from conceptualization through design, ensuring courses meet or exceed quality standards and that development is completed on schedule
  • Ensure accessibility standards that have been established for courses and programs are being met
  • Meet appropriate ethical and legal implications of instructional design (TEACH Act, intellectual property, copyright, ADA-compliance, etc.) and collaborate with others on campus as necessary (Library, General Counsel, etc.)
  • Identify and develop digital content in support of UND’s Open Education Resources course initiative
  • Work collaboratively with TTaDA Digital Media ID when incorporating new UND technologies
  • Provide recommendations for new technologies in support of digital media working closely with TTaDA Digital Media ID
  • Participate in UND Online team meetings as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Competencies:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including collaborating with subject matter experts and instructional designers to help write, design, and develop digital media content
  • Ability to generate creative ideas and transform those ideas into digital media
  • Excellent critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Proficient at organization, time management and managing multiple projects
  • Ability to provide high level of customer service with a positive, energetic outlook

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Instructional Design, Distance Education or Instructional Technology; knowledge of multimedia technology and best practices to support teaching and learning
  • Prior experience designing and developing digital media instructional materials and content in higher education (1 year minimum)
  • Proficiency using digital media development and authoring tools (examples include: final cut pro, adobe creative cloud, adobe captivate, and html5)
  • Successful completion of criminal history backgroun chec

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Additional professional development in multimedia instructional design
  • 2+ years' experience in College or University setting
  • Experience with learning management system
  • Experience with digital media and accessibility requirements for student learning experience
  • Experience with HTML, Javascript, CSS
  • Experience producing SCORM and 508 compliant Web-based content
